Starfire SF-510 Tire Review & Rating
The Starfire SF-510 is built for all-season highway use on today’s light pickups, SUV’s and crossovers. As a low-cost value based tire, the SF510 is designed to provide dependable performance, a smooth ride and longer treadlife.
An all-season tread compound and asymmetric pattern is M+S rated for increased traction in year-round road and weather conditions. Keep in mind though that this is a highway tire and not one for off-road driving. The tire’s semi-solid center rib enhances steering response while also delivering added on-center feel at higher speeds.
Four larger circumferential grooves and the addition of multiple sipes around the tread work to channel away water for better traction on wet pavement. The added sipes also aid in giving the tire increased traction on snow and slush, as well as driving on icy road surfaces.
A computer-designed variable pitch tread helps to eliminate unnecessary road noise when travelling down the highway. Inside the tread are two steel belts that increase strength and durability, and Starfire has made the SF-510 in a wide range of 15-17 inch sizes. It comes with a limited tread warranty.
- Good dry and wet traction
- Smooth ride
- Budget-friendly cost
- Winter performance
The Starfire SF-510 is ideally suited for drivers who are looking for a low-cost alternative to go on their trucks, SUV’s or crossovers. Perhaps you’re needing a tire to simply get you around town, or you plan on getting rid of the vehicle in 10-20K miles and only need a tire to get you by. This is a good option for those types of needs.
You’ll find more than adequate dry and wet traction on this model, and the ride is smooth and comfortable for the most part. That said, there are some areas such as treadlife and performance in winter conditions that could definitely be improved on.
Overall, while you can’t expect to find the type of performance that you would on a Michelin, Continental or other top brand, the SF-510 will get you around and will definitely save you some money at the same time.
