Pirelli P6 Four Seasons Tire Review & Rating
Featuring high speed handling and stability, the P6 Four Seasons from Pirelli is developed for use on today’s sport coupes, luxury sedans, crossovers and minivans. The P6 has also been used extensively as original equipment from high-end automakers like Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and several others.
A 100% pure silica all-season tread compound is designed to increase traction and performance on both dry and wet pavement. The tire’s symmetric tread pattern and independent shoulder blocks give this model increased dry traction and cornering grip. A continuous center rib around the tread enhances steering response throughout the speed range.
Two wide circumferential grooves aid in evacuating water from under the tread onwet road surfaces, while also reducing the risk of hydroplaning. The addition of sipes on the tread blocks provide biting edges for increased grip on wet and snow covered road surfaces, although snow traction could be better. Pirelli quiets the ride through the use of variable pitch sequence. It minimizes road noise and adds more comfort.
Inside the tire you will find two high tensile steel belts for added strength and a smoother ride quality. A polyester cord body provides further comfort and promotes more even treadwear. The P6 is available in sizes ranging from 15-19 inches, and speed ratings of H or V.
Pros
- Excellent dry traction
- Cornering grip and tire stability are very good
- Comfortable riding tire
Cons
- Poor winter performance
- Tread life could be a bit better
- Tire gets noisy as it ages
Overall Thoughts
For the most part, the P6 is used as a replacement for original equipment fitments. To that end it delivers average overall performance for dry and wet traction, cornering grip and ride comfort. It doesn’t do anything exceptional, yet it doesn’t do anything horribly poor as well.
We would like to see better winter handling, but at the same time this is not a winter tire. Tread life is decent for a 400 treadwear rating, although we have heard from some drivers that it could be better.
Overall, we rank the P6 in lower half of the touring all-season class. The Pirelli P6 Four Seasons Plus would make a better choice, as well as models like the Michelin Primacy MXV4 or Cooper CS5 among others.
