Landsail LS588 UHP Tire Review & Rating

The Landsail LS588 UHP is the company’s ultra-high performance all-season tire in their lineup. Built for today’s sport coupes and luxury sedans, the LS588 UHP sports year-round traction and handling to go with a lower budget-minded cost.

Landsail uses an advanced silica tread compound and an asymmetric tread pattern which combine together to provide added dry and wet traction on all types of road surfaces. This tread compound was also created to deliver a lower rolling resistance for added fuel efficiency, although fuel economy is not a main emphasis for this particular tire.

Landsail LS588 UHP Tire Review

The tires’ larger contact patch and wider shoulder blocks help with cornering grip and stability, but we feel this is a big area that could be improved on. A notched center rib is designed to provide added steering response and braking performance.

On wet pavement, the LS588 UHP features four wide circumferential grooves and zig-zag sipes to go with its silica infused tread compound for safer driving performance and reduced risks of hydroplaning. Again, we feel this is another area that could be improved on overall.

These zig-zag sipes are also designed to provide grip on snow covered roads, but again, this is not a strength for this tire.

A softer tread gives this tire one of the more comfortable rides you’ll find in a UHP all-season tire. It absorbs rough road surfaces and bumps with the best tires in its class.

Landsail offers a range of 16-22 inch sizes that come with either a V, W or Y-speed rating. A limited tread warranty is also included.

Pros

  • Good dry and wet traction/braking
  • Excellent ride comfort
  • Treadwear

Cons

  • Needs an increase in higher speed cornering grip and stability
  • Quicken the steering response
  • Winter traction/handling

Overall Thoughts

While the Landsail LS588 UHP is a good-looking UHP AS tire, we were disappointed in the findings for this particular model. Although dry and wet traction is adequate in most cases, and the ride is very smooth and comfortable, we were expecting higher performance.

Due to the softer tread, cornering grip is not what you would expect from this type of tire. It feels soft and is lacking when it comes to higher speed maneuvering. In addition, the steering is not as responsive as you like. Naturally, this is not a tire that performs well in rough winter weather conditions.

Overall, we feel the LS588 UHP does not meet expectations in what drivers look for in a UHP AS tire. The much lower price may be appealing to budget-minded drivers, but if you can increase you budget we would recommend going with other top models in this class like the BFGoodrich Comp-2 A/S, Continental DWS06 or Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 Plus.

  1. I have 12,000 miles on my LS588 19″ tires on my Lincoln MKZ, 3.7L, AWD. A great riding tire, just a little soft on corners. As predicted. Yes, I will purchase again. I believe that Cooper’s are the only American owned tire manufacturer?

  2. what a crap review, these tyres are frankly superb Ok they wont do snow drifts like winters but what everyone has not noticed yet like all owners if the bump up the tire presures slightly the perfomance changes dramitcally! Try it?
Wider rims behave diferently than skinny profiles no idea why as yet?
