The Hankook Winter iCept iZ2 W616 studdless winter tire is designed to give you the traction, braking and handling needed for driving in difficult winter road conditions. Built to meet the demands of a wide range of coupes, sedans, minivans, crossovers and other smaller SUV’s, the iCept iZ2 W616 uses the latest tire technology to increase performance and safety.

Hankook utilizes a high grip silica tread compound and unique directional V-shaped tread pattern that enhances grip on wet, slush and snow-covered pavement. 3-D zigzag sipes are used to increase snow traction and provide the biting edges for driving on ice or hard-packed snow. They do a very good job and we’ve heard this from many drivers as well.

Distinctive Z-grip shoulder blocks, along with a reinforced center rib, aid in distributing equal pressure on the tires’ shoulders. This results in better overall handling performance when driving on snow and slush.

Hankook’s jointless full cover belt and wider steel belt layer combine to add more strength and durability for added handling and longer treadlife. The Winter iCept iZ2 is available in a range of 13 to 18-inch sizes, and all sizes sport a T-speed rating. A limited treadwear warranty is also included.

Overall Thoughts

This latest version of the Winter i*cept is arguably Hankook’s best. It includes a number of unique features that allow it to perform better in all types of winter weather conditions. It gives you added confidence when driving through deep snow and especially on slush, hard-pack and ice.

On the negative side however, treadwear may be an issue if you are a more spirited driver and do quite a bit of driving on dry pavement. In addition, the softer sidewalls have their effect on higher speed cornering stability, especially on dry roads.

Overall, the Hankook Winter iCept iZ2 W616 is a reliable and solid performing winter tire. While not up to the level of performance of other top studless winter tires in its class, it’s ideal for anyone looking for dependable winter traction at a cost that won’t bust the budget.

Warranty

Hankook provides a limited tread warranty on the iCept iZ2. A one-year or first 2/32 inch of wear guarantee on tire uniformity is also included. Materials and workmanship have a 5-year guarantee and come with free tire replacement during the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear. Hankook will then prorate the amount down to 2/32 inch of tread depth.
