Firestone Affinity Touring S4 FF Tire Review & Rating
Used mostly as original equipment on a variety of cars and minivans, the Firestone Affinity Touring S4 FF is one of company’s premium touring tires in their all-season lineup. The FF, which stands for fuel fighter, technology is designed to increase fuel mileage and save you money over the course of the treadlife.
An advanced all-season tread compound combines with deeper and wider tread grooves to provide solid grip and traction in dry and wet weather. A continuous center rib delivers enhanced cornering and quicker steering response.
Firestone has increased ride comfort by utilizing an optimized shoulder angle which reduces road noise and provides comfort on long journeys.
Inside the tire are dual steel belts and a polyester cord body that strengthens the tread and promotes more even treadwear. Available in 15 and 16 inch sizes, the Affinity S4 comes with an H-speed rating. Firestone also includes a 50,000 mile tread warranty.
- Good dry and wet grip
- Quiet ride
- Winter traction and handling
- Treadlife issues
The Affinity Touring S4 FF is one of those tires that you want to like, but its performance in key areas simply will not let you. It drives and handles well on dry and wet pavement. Steering response is quick and overall stability is very good.
Where this model has its issues is with winter weather driving. Even though it is an all-season tire we expected better performance. The other major issue is with treadlife. We’ve heard this same problem from drivers who received only 25,000-40,000 miles from the tread. Yes, a 50,000 mile warranty comes with this tire, but for a tire with a UTQG rating of 500, the mileage should be greater. This same issue exists on the original Affinity Touring as well.
Overall, we rank this model in the middle to lower half of the touring all-season category. As we said in our review on the Affinity Touring, you might want to look at the Precision Touring in place of this tire as a much better Firestone model.
