Achilles ATR Sport 2 Tire Review & Rating

The Achilles ATR Sport 2 is specially designed for those looking for a lower-cost alternative in a summer high-performance tire. Built for sport coupes and sedans, the ATR Sport 2 (Advanced Technology Radial 2nd Generation) features a directional tread pattern for added dry or wet traction and handling.

Achilles uses a performance silica added tread compound, offset tread block design and solid center rib that enhance steering response and stability, while delivering higher speed handling capabilities, which is a strong point on this tire and one often mentioned as a plus by other drivers as well.

Four wide circumferential grooves and the added silica content help with grip on wet pavement. It also reduces the risk of hydroplaning as well, although grip on wet road surfaces is average among tires in this class.

Interlocking tread blocks aid in providing for increased cornering stability, especially at higher speeds. You’ll find this is a very good drift tire, particularly when you factor in the lower cost of this tire.

The Achilles ATR Sport 2 is available in a range of 15-22 inch sizes, and all sizes feature either a V or W-speed rating. A limited tread warranty is also included.

Overall Thoughts

It would be easy to simply discount the ATR Sport 2 as another cheap tire, but the performance this model delivers is not that bad for what it is. For those on tighter budgets, yet wanting better performance from their tires, will like this tire for the most part.

It provides reliable traction and handling throughout the speed range, and cornering grip and stability is good in most all situations. Steering is sharp and responsive, and treadlife has been an added plus for most drivers.

Where this tire falters a bit is with road noise. It’s certainly not the quietest high-performance tire, however, we’ve seen worse. Naturally, this is not a tire that is designed to be driven in harsh winter conditions. On ice and hard-pack you may feel like you’re on a pair of skis. Best advice here is to leave the car at home or get a set of winter tires.

Overall, the Achilles Sport 2 is decent performer as a second-tier brand. Sure, other tires like the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S or Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position among several others all provide higher levels of performance, but this model will save you a substantial amount of money if budget is your biggest issue.

Warranty

Achilles provides a limited mile tread warranty on the ATR Sport 2. Tire uniformity is guaranteed for one-year or the first 2/32 inch of wear. Materials and workmanship are warranted for 6-years and includes free replacement during the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear. A prorated amount is given for the remaining time period or down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.
