Mastercraft Courser HTR Plus Tire Review & Rating

Built to serve the needs of sport truck and SUV owners looking for plus size fitments, the Mastercraft Courser HTR Plus features reliable dry and wet traction, responsive handling and a quieter ride.

Mastercraft uses an all-season tread compound with an asymmetric tread design that increases traction on dry pavement, while also delivering excellent handling and cornering stability.

Four circumferential grooves combine with added sipes and unique see-through grooves that enhance grip on wet road surfaces. This is a strength for this model and one that is frequently mentioned in other driver reviews of this tire.

An optimized tread pitch sequence and multiple shoulder slots aid in reducing unwanted road noise and providing a quiet ride. This is an area that may surprise you and is a welcome addition.

The HTR Plus is M+S rated and sports a 460 UTQG rating. It also comes with a built-in rim protector to help in preventing accidental damage from curbs and other obstacles. Mastercraft offers a range of 18 and 20 inch sizes with all sizes carrying a T-speed rating. A limited tread warranty is provided as well.

Pros

  • Dry/wet traction
  • Responsive handling and cornering performance
  • Surprisingly quiet ride
  • Treadlife

Cons

  • Not for any serious off-roading
  • Winter traction

Overall Thoughts

For drivers looking for 20-inch replacement tires or plus size fitments, the Courser HTR Plus is a good option. Performance on dry and wet pavement, in addition to its capable handling, is better than many in its class. The ride is more quiet than expected, and treadlife has shown to be very good at this stage.

The biggest areas of concern is the fact that this is a highway tire and not designed for any serious off-road activities. Traction on snow and ice is predictably poor when anything more than a light snow falls.

Overall, the HTR Plus offers good performance and value for the money.

  1. I experienced rapid sidewall cracking and as the tires aged, they produced so much road noise I could barely hear myself think. Performance in rain and snow was satisfactory. Tread wear was average.

  2. Maybe the only positive is that these tires aren’t too loud otherwise I went to purchase a set of 4 Michelin Defender LTX M-S and got talked into these Mastercraps worse purchase ever….tires are cracked in way less time than my Michelin did and the performance on even a couple snow flakes is TERRIBLE!!! Mind you I have a heavy SUV 4×4 Expedition

Back to Michelins and never again Mastercraps
