Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3 Tire Review & Rating

Built to deliver uncompromising performance in severe winter conditions, the SP Winter Sport M3 is Dunlop’s high performance winter tire. With a V-speed rating and utilizing the latest tire technology, Dunlop has engineered the M3 for drivers of sport coupes and luxury sedans.

The silica compound, which is made to with stand very cold temperatures, and the directional tread design combine with Dunlop’s V-Technology to provide increased traction and grip on a variety of winter road surfaces.

High-density sipes that are zig-zagged in shape enhance grip on wet or slushy road surfaces. They help evacuate more water and slush from under the contact patch and add more confidence when faced with driving in rough conditions. Independent tread blocks give the tire more ability to go through the snow and ice without sliding. They bite into the snow or ice and maintain their grip, making the drive much safer for you and your family.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts that are reinforced with spirally wrapped nylon for added strength and durability. They also provide better treadwear and a longer lifespan. Dunlop recommends fitting your vehicle with sets of four winter tires to maintain optimal performance.

Pros

  • Grip in light snow, slush, ice, and dry pavement is outstanding
  • Responsive steering with excellent feel
  • Ride is comfortable
  • Treadlife is very good

Cons

  • Would like to see better traction in deep snow (12+ inches)

Overall Thoughts

The M3 takes on light snow and ice with ease. The grip is excellent, whether the roads are snow covered or cold and dry, and the confidence they inspire in winter conditions is outstanding. Our only drawback is the grip in deep snow over 12 inches. For whatever reason, they don’t have the same grip as they do in 3-4 inches of snow.

Beyond that, the ride on this tire is good, and road noise is minimal. Expect to get a longer treadlife out of this tire as long as you don’t drive it in the summer. With its V-speed rating it can be tempting to leave them on year round. Overall, this Dunlop is a good choice in snow tires.
