BFGoodrich Long Trail T/A Tire Review & Rating
The Long Trail T/A from BFGoodrich has been used over the years as a popular original equipment tire on vehicles from Chevrolet, Nissan, Toyota, Ford and others. It’s designed for use on pickups, SUV’s and crossovers for drivers looking to get all-season performance traction and handling, as well as a comfortable ride and longer lasting tread life.
The Long Trail’s tougher all-season tread compound and asymmetric tread pattern combine with larger outside shoulder blocks to enhance dry pavement traction. A continuous center rib provides added steering response and increases ride quality.
Wet handling is enhanced through the tire’s independent tread blocks and inner shoulder design that give the tire increased handling on wet pavement. Handling on snow covered road surfaces is improved from the tire’s biting edges along the tread blocks. Though not a snow tire, grip is decent in the snow and ice.
Inside the tire you will find two steel belts and BFGoodrich’s Equal Tension Containment System that adds reinforcement to the belts for better durability and strength. A polyester cord body increases ride comfort, while a two-ply polyester cord sidewall further adds to a smoother and more comfortable ride quality. The tire is available in 16-18 inch sizes.
Pros
- Dry traction are very good
- Steering is crisp and responsive
- Comfortable ride
- Long lasting tread life
Cons
- Wet handling as tire wears down
- Snow and ice traction could be just a little better
Overall Thoughts
Though it’s been used to a large extent as O.E. on several trucks, the Long Trail T/A is also a popular replacement tire. For the most part, it’s not a bad choice for a highway all-season model. Dry traction is very good on this tire, and the steering is responsive as well. Even with the tread design, the ride is comfortable and pretty quiet.
On the other hand, while wet handling is decent, as the tire wears down so does the traction it provides on wet and snow covered surfaces. We’d like to see just a little better performance in the later miles.
Treadlife is excellent on this model. Many drivers have mentioned this in reviews and ratings on the tire.
Overall, while not on the level of models like the Michelin Defender LTX M/S, General Grabber HTS60 and Yokohama Geolandar H/T G056 among others, this tire still ranks in the upper half of its class. With dependable performance and a longer tread life it continues to be a good choice in new tires.
