Nexen Roadian MT Tire Review & Rating
With an exceptionally deep tread that offers added traction without the loss of driving power, the Nexen Roadian MT is made for drivers looking for serious off road driving performance. Mud, gravel and rough surfaces are all fair game to these tires while a shoulder protector design also offers more durability and protection under heavier loads.
Made for trucks, SUV’s and other 4×4’s, the Roadian MT features unique zig-zag shoulder blocks that provide added grip on both dry or wet road surfaces.
Even in wet conditions the enhanced wide grooves get rid of water fast to avoid hydroplaning and ensure that, no matter what conditions they are in, traction and grip remains stable throughout.
They can be found in sizes ranging from 15 to 16 inches, and have a up to a load range E rating.
Pros
- Suited to serious off road driving
- Excellent traction and handling in snow
- Durable and can be used in all conditions
- Exceptional value for the low cost
Cons
- Treadlife
Overall Thoughts
Driving off the beaten track presents a unique set of challenges but ones that the Nexen MT’s are more than capable of standing up to. Traction on all types of terrain like gravel, sand and dirt is equal to that you would find in much more expensive brand name tires. Expertly designed and created, even on dry and wet normal road surfaces they offer a smooth, comfortable and fairly quiet driving experience. Snow traction is among the best in class for this tire.
The biggest area of concern for us is the treadlife. We’ve heard this mentioned by several drivers of not getting enough wear out of them. The lower price compared to other top brand names in this class does help offset this, but perhaps not to the point where they become a much better buy. Overall, the MT is a middle of the pack model that may be a good option for budget-minded drivers.

I’m not sure what the other posters are smoking, but perhaps they work for a competitor.
I first got the Nexens by accident… bought a truck with them already mounted, kept them on as “rollers”.
Moved the rollers to another truck… that then went into a season of deep snow, long distance highway drives, and about 20,000 miles of everything… and they STILL showed nubbies.
Having come through BFG AT’s, Michelin LTX A/T’s, Goodyears, Coopers (in Australia), and Kelly Safari MSR’s (my faves, no longer available)… I now ONLY put Nexen Roadian MT’s on my builds. I do not work for them, nor do I benefit from them, and I can afford to put anything on my builds… but they are my solid go-to’s for quality, wear and personal experience. And yeah the price is good… but they are quickly becoming more expensive I’ve noted.
As for LOUD? Not so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2sUBfW_OWU
And offroad in pumice… and NOT deflated (although I should have!!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsoBIGEZT5c
very noisy bastards, 15000 klms, I think I will be lucky to get 40 000KLm out of them.
Front end lined every 15000 klm
Now that is not off road, just on the highway , they were new when I bought this Patrol and did not get a choice.
My last 2003 Patrol did 80000 Klm on Coopers, and finished with Dyna pros for over 45000 and still going well I am told.
We live and learn but I had no choice here.
After reading a lot of Nexen reviews that called them GARBAGE I wish I would have bought something else.
Hi
The value proposition of purchasing lies in the low cost of Nexen Tires. This is not a premium tire manufacturer. Please do tell us about the problems you faced using these tires as we believe this is important information the community can benefit from.
