Nexen Roadian AT II Tire Review & Rating
The Nexen Roadian AT II is built to deliver more than competent on and off-road performance in all types of road conditions, to go along with a lower budget-friendly price point. Developed for drivers of trucks and SUV’s, Roadian ATII tires are engineered with the latest tire technology for increased traction and enhanced overall ride quality.
A tougher all-terrain tread compound features a non-directional tread pattern and a multi-wave kerf design that results in an increased grip on dry and wet road surfaces, as well enhanced grip on snow covered roads. The tire’s zig-zag grooves are made to deliver added traction on rain soaked roadways and channel away more water from under the tread for a reduced risk of hydroplaning.
The shoulders on the AT II are created to maximize cornering grip and increase heavier load durability. A center rib adds to tire stability at higher speeds and improves braking response. Nexan has created a tread pattern that also provides a more comfortable ride quality than you might expect from a lower costing tire.
Inside the tire you’ll find a two steel belted construction for added strength and durability. This model is available in a number of 15 to 17 sizes, as well as 6 or 10-ply options.
Pros
- Dry and wet traction
- Crisper steering response and tire stability
- Snow and winter weather performance
- Ride is comfortable
- Tread life
Cons
- A little extra noise
- Wet braking distance
Overall Thoughts
The Nexen AT II has a lot of nice features for its lower price point that make it an attractive choice. Dry and wet traction are good and winter handling is equally as impressive. Although braking performance is excellent on dry pavement, we would like to see a bit of an improvement on wet roads. It just doesn’t match up to the performance you find on models from other big names.
Off-road capabilities are pretty good for this model. It handles light terrain as well as most drivers could want. Traction on snow and ice is where this tire excels better than many competitor tires.
With its 560 UTQG tread rating, you can expect better than average tread life with this tire, something that many drivers have commented on in online reviews. The value for the money is very good with this AT2. It’s not often that you can find a 10-ply tire for less than $150.
Overall, while we feel models like the Michelin LTX A/T 2, BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 or Cooper Discoverer A/T 3 as better choices for tires in this class, if you’re on a tighter budget and looking for a good all-terrain tire, the Roadian ATII is a pretty good choice.
