Nexen CP521 Tire Review & Rating
The Nexen CP521 high performance all-season tire is built to provide predictable year round drivability for a price point that will appeal to most any budget. Designed for drivers of trucks, SUV’s and crossovers, the CP521 has some nice features going for it.
An all-season truck tread compound and symmetric tread pattern feature a multiple kerf design that enhance dry and wet traction, as well as light snow performance. Siped and wider shoulder ribs increase cornering grip, while the continuous center rib enhances steering response and feel.
Four circumferential grooves evacuate water from under the tread and reduce the risk of hydroplaning, something this model does a pretty good job at. Nexen has used a variable pitch block tread pattern to lower outside road noise and increase overall ride comfort on this tire. The result is a smoother and more comfortable ride quality.
Inside the tread are two steel belts with nylon reinforcement for added durability and strength at higher speeds. A polyester cord body further increases ride comfort and promotes more even treadwear. Sizes are available from 16-18 inches.
Pros
- Dry and wet traction
- Cornering grip
- Comfortable ride
Cons
- Winter traction
- Tread life
Overall Thoughts
The CP521 is a better than average performing tire in the budget tire market. You can expect to find good traction and handling on both dry or wet pavement, and the cornering grip is better than we expected. Naturally, it’s not on the level of higher performance tires from Michelin, Goodyear, Nitto and others, but it holds its own pretty nicely.
Winter handling could be better in deeper snow and on ice, but it’s what we expected. Tread life is decent for its 400 UTQG rating, although we would like to see just a bit longer life out of it.
Overall, if you’re on a tight budget and still want a high performance all-season tire for your truck or SUV, the CP521 is a very good choice.

I purchased a set of 4 tyres doe my van before my trip around Australia.
The front tyres wore down fast than the rear and I rotated them after 15,000km.
They handled great especially through the top end where temperatures were in high 40dC and even in low 50dC through the Pilbara.
Also did some off road through diet/gravel and they held up very well.
Given the harsh conditions, they handled great although they have worn down to about 50% in about 20,000km
Hey, that’s amazing, these tires have great endurance. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
