Continental ContiWinterContact TS830P Tire Review & Rating
The Continental ContiWinterContact TS830P winter tire is built with high performance in mind. Designed for sports cars, luxury sedans, and sporty SUVs, the TS830P has stood the test of time in the winter tire marketplace since 2009. The tire’s design elements have a primary focus on keeping drivers safe in severe winter weather conditions.
An asymmetric tread pattern utilizes dense sipes and wide circumferential grooves to help the tire bite into snow, slush, and ice, while also evacuating water and slush to reduce the risk of hydroplaning.
Additionally, the tire is branded with the industry standard Mountain Snowflake emblem to indicate that it has met the requirements for performance in severe winter conditions.
While it’s been crafted as a winter tire, the TS830P has rounded outboard shoulder blocks which greatly improve handling and response over dry road conditions. This tire is all about balance-even distribution of block stiffness and contact patch pressure ensure that the tread wears evenly and improves fuel efficiency.
The TS830P is available in sizes ranging from 17-20 inches, and in H, V and W-speed ratings. Continental also includes a limited tread warranty.
Pros
- Excellent traction in snow, slush, and ice
- Reliable performance in very low temperatures
- Great dry road handling
- Quiet and comfortable ride for a winter tire
Cons
- Braking under wet road conditions could be slightly improved
- Would like to see additional sizes
Overall Thoughts
Without question, a good winter tire is going to provide you with reliable traction in snow, slush, and ice, which is precisely what this model does. The TS830P not only provides the traction on all winter road surfaces, it also delivers high end performance handling in cold, dry conditions as well.
Having said that, if you’re shopping for a winter tire, you want to know how it performs under severe weather conditions. This tire does not disappoint-its robust feature set and sturdy build can provide you with excellent traction in winter driving conditions where that extra grip in snow or ice makes all the difference.
Winter tires are not known for having the greatest ride or noise comfort, but with this in mind, you’ll find that Continental’s offering has a relatively smooth and quiet ride.
Compared to similar tires in its class, the one area in which this tire could improve is its braking response on wet roads. While not terrible by any means, it isn’t as remarkable as its abilities elsewhere. We would also like to see this model become available in some other sizes as well.
Overall if you need a market-proven, high performance winter tire to get you through the roughest of weather, this tire is a good option.
