BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW Tire Review & Rating

The g-Force T/A KDW from BFGoodrich offers maximum dry and wet performance for drivers of high-end sport coupes and sedans. Although this summer tire has been around a few years, it continues to remain one of the more popular choices among car enthusiasts everywhere.

A silica enhanced Black Tech tread compound is developed to deliver increased grip on wet and dry pavement. Combined with wider circumferential grooves and numerous lateral grooves, the tread design increases wet traction and evacuates water from under the tread for a reduced risk of hydroplaning. The combination works very well, something that other drivers have noted in reviews and ratings on this model.

BFGoodrich g-Force T/A Tire Review

The T/A KDW features a unidirectional tread pattern and larger tread block elements that enhance dry traction and cornering performance. BFGoodrich’s G-Control sidewall inserts work to further increase cornering grip by resisting deflection. Steering is crisp and responsive due in part to the continuous center rib on the KDW. Wet or dry, it provides you with good feel.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts and BFG’s Equal Tension Containment System that strengthens the belts with nylon strips that are spirally wound. Together, they enhance ride quality and maximize handling at higher speeds. An added rim protector helps prevent damage to custom wheels.

Pros

  • Outstanding dry traction and cornering grip
  • Excellent steering response
  • Wet handling is above average in its class
  • Surprisingly comfortable ride

Cons

  • Tires get noisy as they wear down
  • Treadlife can be shorter depending on driving style

Overall Thoughts

While the KDW may be aging, it’s doing so in style. Expect to find excellent dry traction and cornering grip on this tire. Breaking it loose can be more difficult than getting your dog to give up its bone. Not happening.

Steering response is equally as good, as is the tire’s wet handling capabilities. BFGoodrich has put a lot of effort into making this a better than average tire on wet pavement. On the downside, and you knew there had to be one, is that the tire gets a bit noisy as it wears. Not a big issue for most enthusiasts, but one you should expect.

Treadlife is good for most drivers, but for those who like to push it to the limits on a more frequent basis you may see a shorter life span. Overall, we still like this tire for its high performance and drivability. Sure, we like the newer KDW 2 and g-Force Sport COMP-2 for what they can offer, but this original is still not a bad choice in maximum high-performance tires.
