Continental ContiEcoContact EP Tire Review & Rating

The ContiEcoContact EP from Continental is a basic summer driving tire mainly designed for drivers of coupes, sedans and crossovers. It has also been used as original equipment on vehicles like the Smart Fortwo. Engineered to provide competent traction, the EP’s lower rolling resistance increases fuel efficiency.

A silica-enhanced tread compound combines with an asymmetric tread pattern and larger outside shoulder blocks to provide increased wet and dry traction. Cornering grip is enhanced through an outer continuous rib, while steering response is increased due to the larger continuous center rib. The combination works very well on this tire, which is also evidenced by many driver reviews and ratings on this model.

Wet handling is improved due in part to the tire’s circumferential grooves and inner tread block design around the tread. It not only provides better handling on wet road surfaces, but the grooves channel away water to reduce the risk of hydroplaning. Please note that this is a summer driving tire and shouldn’t be driven in winter weather conditions.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts that add strength and durability, while a polyester cord body provides increased ride comfort and a better overall ride around town and on the highway.

Overall Thoughts

This Continental EcoContact may surprise you with its good performance on dry and wet road surfaces. The tire handles itself very well and the steering is responsive. Add in the smooth and quiet ride you’ll experience, and you have a good performing tire on your hands.

Tread life is outstanding, however we have noticed that many drivers have mentioned not seeing an increase in fuel mileage as a result of driving on this model. To be fair, some have reported seeing a 1-2 mile increase. That said, this is not a big reason we would purchase this tire; it’s the performance that makes it a good choice.

Overall, while we would like to see other sizes for this model, it does make a good choice in tires for those vehicles it fits. We would not be surprised to see Continental come out with other models similar to this tire in the future based on its solid performance.

Warranty

Continental provides a limited tread warranty on the EcoContact EP. Tire uniformity is guaranteed for one-year or the first 2/32 inch of wear. Materials and workmanship are warranted for 6-years and include free replacement during the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear. A prorated amount is given for the remaining time period or down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.

A one-year or first 2/32 inch of wear road hazard warranty is also included with this model. Finally, you will receive Continental’s 30-day customer satisfaction guarantee whereby you can exchange the tire if you are not completely satisfied.
