Yokohama Geolandar M/T+ Tire Review & Rating

The Geolandar M/T+ from Yokohama is the company’s maximum traction off-road tire that is engineered to provide superior off-road performance in mud, sand, rock, dirt, snow and other terrain. Designed for drivers of pickups and sport utility vehicles, the MT Plus also displays more than capable on-road manners when driving around town or on the highway.

A tough, cut-and-chip resistant truck tread compound is molded into a directional tread pattern for long lasting performance. This tire features deeper lugs and twin cut lug grooves that combine with a unique shoulder design to provide grip on all types of surfaces, especially mud and snow.

Yokohama Geolandar M/T+ Tire Review

The tire’s circumferential groove and tread pattern enhance both wet and dry traction when driving in town or on the highway. Yokohama has managed to reduce the road noise on this tire as well. Although still noticeable as it is with all M/T tires, this model is one of the quieter tires in its class.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts with nylon belt strips that provide added strength for driving in tough off-road conditions. Added polyester body plies increase strength and give the tire a better overall ride quality. The M/T Plus is available in a variety of 15-20 inch sizes.

Pros

  • Outstanding mud/off-road/snow traction
  • On-road handling is among best in class
  • Excellent self-cleaning abilities
  • Treadlife is very good

Cons

  • Starting and stopping on wet pavement

Overall Thoughts

These Yokohama MT Plus tires will go through just about anything you can throw their way. They go through deep mud, dirt, gravel, sand, rock, trail and even deep snow without issue. Once you’re done off road you can then drive them on-road and expect pretty good highway manners from them. In fact, they provide some of the better on road handling when compared to a few other leading competitors.

The tire cleans out very well and doesn’t disappoint. That said, we would like to see a little better traction when starting and stopping on wet pavement. You have to watch your speed, which is not uncommon for this type of tire.

Expect good ride comfort from this tire, which may actually surprise you. It’s pretty quiet for the most part with the exception of on-road noise at higher speeds. Again, that’s common for this style of tire. Treadlife is excellent on the M/T+. We’ve heard other drivers mention they are getting upwards of 60,000 miles out of the tread.

Overall, this Yokohama mud-terrain tire provides excellent traction and performance. While not among the best in class, it is certainly a tire that we can highly recommend.
