Yokohama Geolandar H/T-S G053 Tire Review & Rating

The Geolandar H/T-S G053 is a member of Yokohama’s family of three distinct highway all-season truck, van and SUV tires. Each of these three different models sport their own unique tread pattern for a particular need. This new G053 is designed for drivers who are looking for a tire performs well under heavy loads or that require a Load Range E application.

The all-season tread compound and asymmetric tread pattern provides enhanced traction and handling on a variety of road and weather conditions. A continuous center rib adds to dry and wet traction, while also increasing stability and steering response at highway speeds.

The heart of this tire though is in carrying heavy loads. The tire’s three-ply casing and Load Range E rating (10-ply rated), or LT sizes as well, give this tire the strength to haul heavier cargo and not let you down. Computer optimized tread blocks increase treadlife and lower road noise by reducing sound frequencies.

Inside the tire you will find twin steel belts for additional strength and durability when driving at higher speeds. Yokohama offers the option of either a black sidewall or raised white letters depending on the size you select. The tire is available in 16-17 inch sizes.

Pros

  • Very good dry and wet traction
  • Responsive steering
  • Tires ride comfortably under heavy load
  • Good treadlife

Cons

  • Tires can get a bit noisy when wearing down
  • Would like to see better winter handling

Overall Thoughts

The Yokohama G053 does a good job in performing under heavier loads. Traction on dry and wet pavement is more than adequate, and the steering response is equally as good. No, these are not high performance tires that take corners like a summer tire, but they are tires that do well for what they were designed for.

Expect to hear a little noise as the tread wears down, however it is not as bad as a few others in this class. In addition, while adequate, we would like to see a bit more traction on hard-pack snow and ice.

Overall, the G053 delivers solid everyday performance for pickups or vans that haul heavier loads. We certainly wouldn’t advise installing them on your SUV. It’s a 10-ply tire that features a load range E rating, so touring type performance is not what’s it is designed to provide. We place this model in the middle of the pack among other tires in this class.

  1. AVOID THESE TIRES !!! I got 20,000 miles out of these $800.00 tires with regular rotations documented from my dealer. And I am hardly an aggressive driver. I was floored to discover there was no warranty. Tomorrow my dealer is taking this junk off of my truck and putting on some real tires at his cost with a real warranty and free mounting and balance. Be sure to NEVER buy the G053.

    1. Hi Trey, I’m so sorry that you had such a bad experience with these tires. Thanks for letting us know.
