Yokohama Geolandar H/T-S G052 Tire Review & Rating

The Geolandar H/T-S G052 is a member of Yokohama’s family of three distinct highway all-season truck, van and SUV tires. Each of these three different models sport their own unique tread pattern for a particular need. This new G052 is designed for drivers who are looking for high performance and a low profile tread design.

The all-season tread compound and directional tread pattern enhance traction on dry and wet roads, as well as light snow covered surfaces. Cornering grip is increased with the larger tread blocks and rounded shoulders. This design also provides for more responsive steering and better feel.

Yokohama Geolandar H/T-S G052 Tire Review

Grip on wet road surfaces is enhanced through the tire’s two circumferential grooves and unique tread groove pattern. It increases hydroplane resistance by evacuating more water from under the tread. Ride quality is improved due to the treads computer-optimized tread design and straight line grooves that reduce outside tire noise. Many drivers have commented on the ride quality being much better than expected from a lower profile tire.

Inside the tread is steel belted construction that provides added strength and durability to the tire at higher speeds. It also increases overall tread life and ride quality. Yokohama has made the G052 in 17-22 inch sizes. You also have the option of choosing a black sidewall design or one with raised white letters.

Overall Thoughts

The H/T-S G052 is beginning to show its age at this point in time. While it does some things quite well, such as dry and wet traction, cornering performance and a pretty comfortable ride, it has several negatives in key areas.

The biggest area that other drivers mention the most is the poor treadlife. We’ve heard many drivers complaining of a shorter than expected treadlife. In addition, traction, braking and acceleration on snow and ice lower than average on this model. Finally, road noise becomes more pronounced as the tread wears down.

Overall, this Yokohama tire is an average performer at best. We would recommend going with a number of other models in place of the G052. Tires like the YK-HTX, Michelin Defender LTX M/S or Cooper Discoverer HTP would be a better option in our opinion.
