Yokohama Avid TRZ Tire Review & Rating

Designed for drivers of coupes, mid-sized sedans and minivans, the Avid TRZ from Yokohama offers all-season traction and handling to go with the comfort a touring tire provides.

The silica enhanced tread compound has been developed to withstand the intense cold temperatures that winter bring and remain more pliable and resistant to wear, while also giving better all-season performance.

Yokohama Avid TRZ Tire Review

Yokohama’s unique Three Ride Zones (TRZ) feature an outside zone that increases traction and cornering due to larger outside shoulder blocks and continuous ribs around an asymmetrical tread pattern.

The center zone is made to improve wet traction. It features wider circumferential grooves that expel water from under the tire and add more driver confidence on wet roads. The inner zone sports a multiple sipe design and lateral grooves that provide more grip in the snow and other winter weather road conditions.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts with nylon reinforcement that enhance comfort and high speed handling for highway use. This also promotes increased durability and more even wear. The TRZ is warranted for either 80,000 or 60,000 miles depending on the tires speed rating.

Pros

  • Dry and wet traction is very good, as is steering response
  • Minimal road noise
  • Comfortable riding tire
  • 80,000 mile warranty

Cons

  • Some drivers have mentioned shorter treadwear

Overall Thoughts

Please Note: Yokohama has discontinued making the TRZ since our review was written.

As a touring all-season tire, the TRZ ranks in the top ten for traction, handling and quality comfort. Outside road noise is hardly noticed with this tire, and the overall performance is very good. Some have mentioned shorter treadwear as an issue, but many have said the opposite. We’ve had no problem in this area. This Yokohama tire is a nice choice in touring tires for all-season use.
