Yokohama Advan Sport Tire Review & Rating

The Advan Sport from Yokohama is the company’s high performance summer tire that is also used as original equipment on sports cars like the Porsche 997 Carrera 4 and Nissan 370Z among others. Designed for high end sport coupes, sedans and SUV’s, the Advan Sport Yokohama’s flagship model in this series of tires.

Using technology that is partially developed for tires running at the 24 Hours of LeMans, the silica blended tread compound on this tire is engineered to be more effective regardless of ambient temperatures. Larger outer shoulder blocks and an asymmetric tread pattern enhance handling and cornering, while also increasing overall ride quality.

Wet pavement performance is given a boost through the four circumferential grooves that expel water from under the tread and reduce the risk of hydroplaning. While these grooves work well you will still want to use caution when driving on rain slick roads.

Yokohama states that they utilize precision engineering down to one billionth of a meter on the Advan Sport to create a more rounded tire that improves overall ride quality. Inside the tread you’ll find two steel belts that are reinforced with nylon for added strength and durability, as well as increased comfort. Speed ratings on the Advan Sport range from W to Y, and sizes are available from 17-22 inches.

Overall Thoughts

We have some mixed feelings on the Advan Sport. On the plus side, we really like the traction and lightning quick steering response, especially on dry pavement. For those who enjoy street racing or autocross, this is a very competent tire that should do well for you. Cornering is good, but not great. We were left wanting more out of it. The grip is just a little short of tires like the Michelin Super Sport, PS3 or Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position among others.

Tread life is not bad for this model, with some drivers mentioning getting upwards of 30-40,000 miles from the tread. Results will vary of course. Road noise has been an issue for some, but this is really to be expected to a degree. Ride comfort is not bad on this tire as well.

Overall, while this Yokohama model is a very good tire, there are other tires in this category that you may want to check out before making a final decision.

Warranty

Yokohama includes a limited warranty on the Advan Sport. Tire uniformity is guaranteed for the first 2/32 inch of wear. Materials and workmanship are warranted for 5-years and include free replacement during the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear. A prorated amount is given for the remaining time period or down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.
