Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 Tire Review & Rating

The Michelin Pilot Alpin PA series of high performance winter tires has been one of the top performers for several years running, and the new PA4 continues in the same line. Built for drivers of sport coupes, sedans and other high performance vehicles, the PA4 is designed to deliver dependable traction, impressive handling and a lower rolling resistance for enhanced fuel efficiency.

Michelin’s utilizes a sunflower oil Helio tread compound that is also silica based for maximum bite in winter weather conditions, while being more pliable in very cold temperatures.

Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 Reviews

Traction and handling are enhanced through Stabiligrip 3D siping around the tread. The high density sipes help deliver increased acceleration improvement, while also providing better overall handling and braking performance on snow and ice.

Michelin has made it easy to know how effective traction will be as the tire ages by adding snow platform indicators into the tread grooves. As the tire wears you will be able to see how much tread remains and whether or not it’s time to think of replacing them.

Inside the tire you’ll find two steel belts and FAZ technology that adds strength by spirally wrapping polyester cord filaments around the tire. This technology also adds to ride comfort and increases high speed handling. Sizes are available from 18-20 inches, and there is a 30,000 mile tread warranty included as well.

Pros

  • Outstanding snow, slush and rain handling
  • Acceleration and braking in snow is excellent
  • Tread remains flexible in very cold temperatures
  • Named by Consumer Reports as one of the best performance winter tires

Cons

  • Would like to see just a bit better ice braking
