Kumho Ecsta STX KL12 Tire Review & Rating

The Kumho Ecsta STX KL12 is specially designed to provide high performance handling and traction on both dry and wet pavement. Developed for drivers of sport trucks, SUV’s and crossovers, the STX sports an attractive tread design to go with year round performance.

The all-season tread compound and non-directional tread pattern combine with larger and more stable tread blocks to provide enhanced grip on dry pavement and added cornering abilities. Many drivers have made comments that this tire is just flat out fun to drive on in the corners. Steering is quick and responsive throughout the speed zone, something that we’ve often heard from other drivers as well.

Wet pavement traction and handling are increased through the tire’s two wide circumferential grooves and additional high-angled lateral grooves that expel more water from under the tread. It also reduces the risk of hydroplaning, which is something many drivers have mentioned as a real plus when driving on this tire.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts that are nylon wrapped for added strength and durability. The bead is reinforced as well. Kumho uses their jointless construction to improve treadlife and better overall ride comfort. A rim protector in the sidewall helps protect accidental damage to your rims from curbs or other obstructions.

Overall Thoughts

The Kumho KL12 has some very good things going for it… but it also has some other areas that could use improvement. The tire has outstanding grip on dry or wet pavement, and the cornering performance is equally as impressive. The steering response is quick and provides good feel, giving you more confidence behind the wheel.

On the other hand, expect some road noise at higher speeds with this model, as evidenced by reviews from other drivers. In addition, treadlife has been a complaint for some as well. Several drivers have mentioned uneven wear, and Kumho does not provide a mileage warranty on this particular tire.

Overall, if a little road noise doesn’t bother you and you want a cool looking tread design that offers some solid dry pavement performance, the Kumho STX may be what you’re looking for.

Warranty

The STX comes with a limited tread warranty. Tire uniformity on the STX is guaranteed for the first year or first 2/32 inch of treadwear.

Materials and workmanship are guaranteed for 6-years and include free replacement during the first 2/32 inch of wear. A prorated amount is given for the remaining time period or until the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.
