Starfire RS-C 2.0 Tire Review & Rating

The Starfire RS-C 2.0 is one of the more budget-friendly all-season tires on the market today. It’s built for drivers of all types of coupes, sedans and minivans who are not only looking to save money on a new set of tires, but who are seeking dependable year-round performance.

An all-season tread compound that is designed to deliver increased traction and handling, as well as enhanced treadlife, gives the RS-C 2.0 solid grip on dry road surfaces. The tire’s continuous center rib adds to handling stability and delivers good on-center feel for a low-cost tire.

Four circumferential grooves around the tread work to channel away water and reduce the risk of hydroplaning, which this tire does pretty well overall. Starfire, a division of Cooper Tire, has incorporated a computer-optimized variable pitch tread to lower road noise and provide a smooth and quiet ride quality on the highway.

Inside the tread are two steel belts with a spiral nylon overlap that add to strength and durability. All Starfire tires, which is a subsidiary of Cooper, carriy a 400 UTQG rating and are available in a wide range of 14-16 inch sizes.

Pros

  • Good dry and wet traction
  • Above average winter performance
  • Tire delivers a comfortable quiet ride
  • Treadlife
  • Budget-friendly cost

Cons

  • No tread mileage guarantee

Overall Thoughts

There are a number of good tires in the low-cost all-season category, and this model certainly ranks in the upper half of the class. It delivers very good traction and handling on dry or wet roads. Winter traction is better than average according to many other driver reviews on this tire, which is really an added bonus.

For a cheaper tire the ride is quiet and comfortable. We would say it is just as good as some of the premium tire models we’ve reviewed. Sure, it’s not on the line of the Cooper CS5 Grand Touring or Michelin Premier A/S, but that’s not what it’s trying to be.

If you’re a driver looking for a low-cost, reliable and overall good quality tire, the Starfire RS-C is tough to beat. We give it a high recommendation.

  1. I don’t recommend at all. Was going to sell my E39 BMW within about 90 days and put a set of Starfire RS C 2s to sell car with newer rubber, get a slightly higher price. Drove about 2000 miles and decided to keep car, even though driven infrequently. Tires had bubble and flat spot. I ask how? Since I’ve decided to keep my baby, I’m replacing these horrible tires with a better brand. Remember, you get what you pay for….

  2. I bought 4 RSC 2.0, rotated ever 7,000 miles, proper air pressure, treads worn down in 20,000 miles. They are cheap in price but do not last long.

  3. I bought 4 for my 09 sonata. After just a month a large bubble in r.f .replaced it. a few weeks later the same a large bubble in my lf.Waitnig for problems with the rear ?

  4. And… I should add… I just read all Starfire tires come with the 400 treadwear rating, so I think that means they are all good, though there are other ratings like temperature and speed that I didn’t check.

  5. five star. I didn’t buy these but they came with the car. I bought two used bridgestone, their cheapy model, they were used but were looking good and put them as the rear tires, and switched the car to front wheel drive so as not to mess with the tranny. (I pulled into the tire place at quarter of on a Sat. and didn’t want to push my luck so I said leave them on the back..) These bridgestones wore out and I got a flat in a few thousand miles while the Starfire’s didn’t appear to really wear during that same time. And that was while being on the front—I never switched them. Boo for Bridgestone’s cheap line, but, an A+ for Starfire.

  6. Put 4 new tires on my 99 ford escort back in October 2015. Drove through the blizzard 2016 without a problem.I was amazed by the traction and handling. I WILL DEFINITELY BUY them AGAIN!!!
