Pit Bull PBX A/T Hardcore Tire Review & Rating

The Pit Bull PBX A/T Hardcore is a durable, aggressive looking all-terrain tire that is also made right here in America. Designed for use on all types of pickups, jeeps, SUV’s and other 4×4’s, the PBX AT is built to deliver exceptional off-road traction, while providing more than competent on-road manners.

Every Pit Bull PBX A/T Hardcore tire consists of a 3-ply cut and chip resistant rubber tread compound which combines with a tread pattern that features 6 rows and 5 circumferential grooves instead of the fairly typical 4-5 rows and 3-4 circumferential grooves.

Pit Bull PBX A/T Hardcore Tire Review

The tread design is actually a hybrid between an A/T and M/T tire that is created to give you a more civilized ride on the street, while also providing outstanding performance off-road on all types of terrain. These newer hybrid designs are proving to be quite popular for those wanting a more aggressive AT tire without having to go with a full-blown MT model.

Superior traction is one of the main strengths of these tires and one often mentioned in other driver reviews. Stepped lugs, staggered shoulder lugs and the use of 3D, multi-level, interlocking, and directional sipes, increase traction, as well as clean themselves of mud, stones and other debris.

A range of eye-catching features further enhance the appearance of these tires, including
attractive dual sidewall designs, tire tattoos and over-the-shoulder sidewall lugs. These
sidewall lugs and rim guards add the kind of strength and durability required to deal with a wide range of adverse terrain and driving conditions.

Off-road performance aside, Pit Bull hasn’t forgotten the fact that the vast majority drivers spend their time on the highway or around town. The PBX A/T Harcore sports the 3-peak mountain snowflake emblem, giving it the same amount of grip and traction on snow and ice as a dedicated winter tire. The added siping and circumferential grooves increase wet traction and reduce the risk of hydroplaning.

Pit Bull offers 17-20 inch sizes, and we’re told that new sizes are on the way. A 40K mile tread warranty is included on this tire as well.

Pros

  • One-of-a-kind tread design
  • Dry and wet traction is very good
  • Outstanding winter traction
  • Off-road performance is excellent
  • Made in America

Cons

  • Would like to see more sizes added

Overall Thoughts

There’s a lot to like about this new Pit Bull PBX A/T Hardcore tire. The hybrid design gives truck, jeep and SUV owners another option that didn’t exist until the last few years. You’ll find this tire delivers solid performance off-road in all types of terrain. Dirt, sand, mud and rock are not an issue for this model.

On the highway, the added sipes and severe winter service designation give it the traction to take on the worst of winter conditions, as well as rain slick streets. Not every AT tire features the mountain snowflake emblem, so this is an added plus. Road noise is about the same as a standard all-terrain tire and much less than most every MT tire.

Overall, this is a serious tire that is up to the task for driving in rugged off-road conditions, while making itself feel right at home on the street. It’s a good choice for those living in rural areas, driving on job sites or simply looking for a tougher and more aggressive A/T tire.
