Pirelli P Zero Rosso Tire Review & Rating

The P Zero Rosso from Pirelli is designed for serious driving enthusiasts who are looking for maximum performance, control and comfort. It’s why this tire has been used by many car makers over the years as original equipment on their sport coupes and luxury sedans. Engineered with both asymmetric and directional tread patterns, the tire gives you the ability to combine or use one type for both the front and rear axle.

A high-performance silica-enhanced tread compound utilizes the latest in tire technology for increased dry and wet performance. For example, Pirelli has added Aramid Pulp in the compound that works to stiffen the tread for enhanced traction and stability at higher speeds, as well as aid in prolonging treadlife.

Larger shoulder blocks and intermediate tread blocks combine add to cornering performance and overall dry grip on all types of road surfaces. Lightweight materials used in the construction of the tread are designed to add greater high-speed stability and control.

Circumferential grooves and independent inner rib blocks provide increased wet traction and hydroplane resistance. Ride comfort is another area that Pirelli has paid attention to on the Rosso. The tread features a phase-and-sequence design that reduces road noise considerably, something that has been noted in many driver reviews on this model.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts and Pirelli’s PenTec cord for added reinforcement. This unique cord is a material that was developed for space exploration by Allied Signal. It reduces the weight and adds more stability when driving at higher speeds. The tires are available in sizes ranging from 17-20 inches and in W and Y-speed ratings.

Pros

  • Excellent dry traction
  • Cornering grip is very good
  • Quick steering response and very good stability at all speeds
  • Ride is comfortable

Cons

  • Tread life
  • Tires are expensive

Overall Thoughts

The P Zero Rosso has been around for a number of years, and while that is a testament to its performance and popularity, it is now showing its age. Yes, we really like its dry traction and cornering performance. The tire is stable and provides crisp steering response.

You will also find the ride to be comfortable for the most part. On the other hand the biggest weakness this tire has in our opinion is the tread life. It’s far too short for what this tire costs. This is an area that many drivers have also complained about in reviews and ratings.

Overall, this tire ranks in the lower half of its class. Its fallen over the years with newer models in this class providing higher performance at lower costs. We would recommend taking a look at tires such as the Michelin Pilot Super Sport, Continental ExtremeContact DW or the Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position as better options.
