The Nitto NT-SN2 studless ice and snow tire is designed to deliver excellent winter traction at a budget-friendly cost that is lower than many of the top models in its class. Built for use on coupes, sedans, minivans and crossovers, this Nitto winter tire offers surprising performance for a company that is arguably more well known for their line of high performance and off-road tires.

Nitto starts with an advanced silica-based tread compound that is matched up with a computer-optimized tread pattern to give the NT-SN2 Winter added snow and ice traction, while maintaining solid grip on dry pavement. The tread compound is engineered to remain pliable in very cold temperatures, which helps this tire resist hardening and deliver better performance in sub-freezing temps.

3-D multiwave sipes and the tire’s continuous center rib provide increased stability and enhanced braking/acceleration when driving in snow and on hard-pack. These sipes also aid in gripping wet road surfaces and providing better handling response.

Nitto offers a range of 14-18 inch sizes that come with either an S or T-speed rating. A limited tread warranty is also included.

Overall Thoughts

There’s a lot to like with the Nitto NT-SN2 Winter tire. Its performance is not that far under the best in class, and the price will save you some money as well.

Traction on snow, slush, hard-pack and other winter weather conditions is very good. You get the kind of confident feeling behind the wheel that you want from a winter tire. In addition, this is one of the quietest snow tires that you’ll drive on.

The one area where we could see improving in would be wet traction, at least for more spirited drivers. You may find this tire breaking loose when you give it a bit too much throttle.

Overall, the Nitto NT-SN2 is a very capable tire for winter driving needs. While it may fall shy of a Michelin X-ice or Bridgestone Blizzak, it holds its own and is ideal for budget-minded drivers.
