Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus Tire Review & Rating

The Energy MXV4 Plus from Michelin is designed to provide touring all-season traction and handling along with a comfortable ride and higher fuel efficiency. Used as original equipment on vehicles like the Buick Lucerne, Hyundai Azera, Chrysler Pacifica and several others, the MXV4 Plus is engineered for all types of coupes, sedans, crossovers and minivans.

A silica enhanced Smart Tread Compound is designed to provide increased traction, improved treadwear and better fuel efficiency. The symmetric tread pattern combines with MaxTouch technology and an optimized casing shape that are made to give the tire enhanced dry traction, while also providing a more quiet ride. More on that in our overall thoughts.

Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus Tire Review

The tire’s four circumferential grooves aid in channeling away water from under the tread when driving on rain soaked road surfaces. They also help reduce the risk of hydroplaning and add more confidence behind the wheel. Added lateral grooves provide edges for traction on snow covered streets, which is pretty good based on many driver reviews.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts and Michelin’s Banded At Zero technology for added strength and durability. A polyester cord body and Comfort Control technology increases ride comfort. A 45,000 mile tread guarantee is included, and the tire is available in 17-18 inch sizes.

Pros

  • Excellent dry and wet traction
  • Responsive steering and good stability at higher speeds
  • Comfortable riding tire

Cons

  • Tires are a little noisy for Michelin’s
  • Tread life could be better

Overall Thoughts

Michelin produces a number of very good energy efficient tires in their lineup, and this MXV4 Plus is one that does some things very well, while falling down in a couple of other areas. On the plus side, expect very good dry and wet traction on all types of pavement. The steering provides good feel, and the tire remains stable at higher speeds.

Ride comfort is another positive on this tire. That said, road noise is definitely an area that could use improvement. This model is just a bit noisier than other Michelin tires. It’s a frequent complaint in other driver reviews as well. Beyond that, tread life could be a little better. There is a 45,000 mile tread guarantee, but we’ve heard from other drivers of getting far fewer miles.

Overall, the MXV4 ranks in the middle of the touring all-season class. Other Michelin models like the Premier A/S, Primacy MXV4 and MXM4 are all good options that you also may want to look at.
