Michelin Pilot Primacy Tire Review & Rating

The Pilot Primacy from Michelin is built to provide summer touring comfort along with a higher level of performance handling and grip. Designed for drivers of sport coupes and sedans, the Primacy is also used as original equipment on models from Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and other high end automakers.

A silica based tread compound and asymmetric tread pattern enhance traction on both dry and wet pavement. Larger outside tread blocks around the shoulder add to cornering grip, while the tire’s continuous center rib increases stability and provides more responsive steering at all speeds.

Three circumferential grooves and unique high angled grooves on the inner section of the tread give this tire excellent wet handling capabilities and reduces the risk of hydroplaning. Full depth sipes around the tire further increase grip on wet road surfaces.

Inside the tire you will find two high tensile steel belts that use exclusive Michelin Banded At Zero Technology that add strength and enhance handling at higher speeds. This model is available in 18-20 inch sizes, as well as a W or Y-speed rating. Michelin also includes a 30,000 mile tread guarantee.

Overall Thoughts

The Pilot Primacy provides exactly what you would expect from Michelin for the most part. Dry and wet traction on this tire is excellent. Cornering grip is tight and stable at highway speeds, while braking and acceleration is equally as impressive. In addition to performance, ride comfort is another strong point on this tire.

The areas we would like to see improved would have to start with road noise. The noise becomes more pronounced as the tire wears. Several drivers have mentioned this as well in their reviews. Treadlife is the other area that we have heard some drivers complain about, although this is a summer performance touring tire and tread life will depend a lot on how spirited the driving is.

Overall, we rank the Pilot Primacy in the middle of the summer touring class.

Warranty

Michelin provides a 6-year or 30,000 mile tread warranty on the Primacy. Mileage is reduced by half if different sizes are used on rear than in front. Tire uniformity is guaranteed for one-year or the first 2/32 inch of wear.

Materials and workmanship are warranted for 6-years and include free replacement during the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear. A prorated amount is given for the remaining time period or down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.

You will also find a 3-year flat tire changing service along with Michelin’s 30-day satisfaction guarantee.
