The Maxxis Buckshot Mudder II MT-764 tire is billed as a high-quality mud terrain tire that is designed to give you the strength, durability and traction you need when you’re driving on difficult off-road terrains, while remaining civilized on the street.

Built to satisfy the requirements of a wide range of pickup, SUV, jeep and other 4×4 owners, this aggressive looking M/T tire is a new and superior version of the popular Buckshot Mudder.

Maxxis Buckshot Mudder II MT-764 Tire Review

Maxxis uses a unique talon-shaped tread design to go with its cut and chip resistant tread compound to deliver the traction that’s required off-road in mud, sand and other rocky surfaces. Its staggered shoulder lugs and durable 3-ply sidewall further enhances this tires’ grip and traction as you maneuver through rough surfaces.

As well as being designed to perform well off-road and on the street, the Buckshot Mudder 2 MT-764 is also pinned for studs. Thanks to this tire’s self-cleaning tread feature, mud, stones and other debris are removed so that your tires maintain the traction and grip needed when you are travelling in testing conditions.

Maxxis offers a range of 14-20 inch LT and flotation sizes, with C, D and E load ranges. A limited tread warranty is included on all sizes.

Pros

  • Excellent off-road traction in whatever you want to go through
  • Aggressive, good looking appearance
  • Very good on-road dry traction and handling
  • Treadlife is better than expected

Cons

  • Can be noisy on the highway
  • Increase the wet traction

Overall Thoughts

The Maxxis Buckshot Mudder II MT-764 sports an aggressive, if not menacing, tread design that simply looks great. Beyond their looks though, this tire is tough as nails when taken off-road. It takes on deep mud, soft sand, dirt, gravel and tough rocky terrain with relative ease. It doesn’t disappoint in any type of terrain.

Driving on-road you may be somewhat surprised with how connected it stays to the road. Much smoother than many MT tires in this area. In addition, treadlife has been above average and an area that has impressed many other drivers as well.

On the downside, we feel that noise on the highway could be an issue for some. Expect to hear some added noise. However, this is an MT tire and it’s to be expected. That said, if noise is a major consideration you may want to look for a different tire. Another area we feel could be improved is traction on wet or icy roads. The addition of sipes around the tread would go a long way towards fixing the issue. To be fair, we’ve heard from several drivers who haven’t experienced any difficulties with traction.

Overall, the Maxxis Buckshot Mudder II MT-764 is a tough, aggressive MT tire that performs flawlessly off-road. It’s ideal for use on farms, construction sites, those living in rural areas, and basically anyone who wants a rugged off-road tire. We feel it’s one of the better M/T tires in its class.

  1. I had brand new ones on my truck and my L/F completely exploded…. Almost killed my entire family. I hate that cause I really like the looks.

  2. I’m about a month into this set of tires. 33/12.50/20 MT764 on a 03 F250 Super Duty. I have to say i had pretty high expectations before I bought these tires and I haven’t been disappointed. I’m still fine tuning p.s.i. looking for the most comfort without compromising longevity. The ride on the highway at max recommended p.s.i was tolerable but a bit firm as expected. I did notice a bit of road walking at the higher p.s.i. I haven’t done any serious off-roading yet but I did pull a fellow out of some soft sand with no problem (I’m sure they’ll do just fine off road). Traction on wet roads was much better than I expected after reading other people’s reviews. I will say that if you don’t appreciate the song of my people (mudgrip tire noise) you shouldn’t buy these tires. My truck is a 7.3 powerstroke and I hear my tires over my engine noise. I also did find the ride to be better than the all terrains I took off.
