Landsail LS388 Tire Review & Rating

Built as a summer high-performance touring tire for all types of coupes, sedans and crossovers, the Landsail LS388 features dependable drivability with a lower cost that will appeal to budget-minded drivers.

Landsail uses an advanced rubber tread compound that has been formulated to reduce rolling resistance and increase fuel efficiency for added savings over the life of the tire. A symmetric tread pattern and solid circumferential center rib quicken steering response and enhance braking and acceleration.

Landsail LS388 Tire Review

Four circumferential grooves and numerous lateral grooves provide for evacuating water from under the tire, increasing traction and reducing the risk of hydroplaning. While wet traction is good around town, we would like to see just a bit more grip at higher speeds on wet pavement.

You’ll find Landsail’s optimized tread pitch sequence and quiet-ride pitch alignment to deliver a quiet ride and better all-around ride comfort.

Landsail offers a wide number of 13-18 inch sizes in T, H, V and W-speed ratings. A 500 UTQG rating should provide 40-50K miles or more from the tread depending on driving habits. The LS388 comes backed with a 40K mile treadlife warranty.

Pros

  • Dry traction/braking and acceleration is very good
  • Comfortable ride quality without much noise
  • Good average treadlife for a low-cost tire
  • Value for the money and performance

Cons

  • Boost in wet grip at higher speeds

Overall Thoughts

Based on the performance of the LS388 it’s easy to see why many drivers give positives reviews on it. Its dry traction, handling and cornering stability are nearly equal to many big brand name models. Ride comfort is very good and treadlife is average among tires in this class.

Perhaps the one flaw on this tire is wet traction at higher speeds. To be fair, this may only affect more spirited drivers and not the majority.

Overall, based on performance and the lower budget-price this tire carries, the LS388 is a worthy choice for anyone looking to upgrade their tires without breaking the bank.

  1. Is this an all-season tire? I see on the brand’s website the tire is M+S rated. Wondering how this tire would do in winter driving (Midwest US).

    1. This is a summer performance touring tire. Yes, it does have the M+S stamp on the sidewall, but that can often be confusing and it doesn’t mean much anymore..

A tire maker can brand their tires M+S by only meeting certain basic requirements.

      • Have multiple pockets or slots in at least one tread edge that extend toward the tread center at least 1/2 inch from the footprint edge
      • Measured perpendicularly to the tread centerline, have a minimum cross-sectional width of 1/16 inch
      • Have edges of pockets or slots at angles between 35 and 90 degrees from the direction of travel
      • Have a contact surface void area will be a minimum of 25% based on mold dimensions

Many summer tires can have these requirements just like all season tires. For example, models like the General Grabber UHP and BFGoodrich Sport Comp-2 are both summer UHP tires that are stamped with the M+S label. However, it would not be advisable to drive on them in winter conditions. I hope that helps.

    2. It totally SUCKS in snow, so I would say no. I have these on my Prius in summer and switched a little prematurely. A couple of different spring snow events have left the car silent and lifeless (traction control kicks in and it won’t budge) on our road. Braking in snow is downright scary and out of control.

      1. Hey Pete, I’ve come across some negative comments regarding their snow handling. Have you faced any
        other issues as well?
