Kumho WinterCraft ice Wi32 Tire Review & Rating

Kumho WinterCraft ice Wi32 is a studdable winter tire for passenger cars of all sizes. It replaces the Wi32 studdable winter tire from the brand.

The studded option is not legal for highway use in many states and municipalities, so be sure to check your local laws before shopping for this tire. They are currently only available for purchase in Europe and Russia.

Kumho is a compelling brand because of its consistently low prices and the Wi32 tire is among the cheapest available, but it lags behind the leaders in this segment on performance.

This redesign includes adding more grooves for more edge density, which aids water evacuation and biting grip on icy roads. It also includes a redesigned stud which offers more security in road holding.

It also includes more studs as well as increased multi-directional 3D sipes and a revised tire compound for better base grip. This is a directional tread pattern.

Kumho’s WinterCraft ice Wi32 studdable winter tire is available in sizes that fit 13” to 19” rims with a load rating of up to 108, or 2,205 lb per tire and a speed rating of T (118 mph) in most sizes. The 235/55R17 tire receives an H rating for highway speeds up to 130 mph.

Overall Thoughts

Driver reviews on the the Kumho WinterCraft ice Wi32 vary widely based on their experience. As a studded winter tire it offers a major step in winter traction and confidence over most non-studded winter tires and a massive improvement over non-winter tires.

However, tested versus other studded winter tires the Kumho WinterCraft ice Wi32 is noisier, rides more harshly, and offers less overall grip than most of its competitors. It doesn’t evacuate water well, and doesn’t maintain grip at higher steering angles.

This is a budget-oriented studdable winter tire best suited to fleet providers in places with extreme winter or Alpine conditions. The Kumho WinterCraft ice Wi32 offers an affordable and accessible entry point to a true extreme winter tire for new users, or those with a restricted budget.

Remember to make sure these tires are legal in your area before fitting.
