Kumho Solus KH25 Tire Review & Rating
The Solus KH25 from Kumho adds all-season traction and a comfortable ride for drivers of today’s coupes, sedans and minivans. Used mainly as original equipment, the KH25 is built to provide year round performance in a variety of weather conditions.
An all-season tread compound that includes silica for better wet pavement handling, combines with a symmetrical tread pattern for increased dry and wet pavement traction. The steering on this tire is responsive due in part to the center rib.
Four circumferential grooves enhance grip during rainy weather. These grooves also channel away water from under the tread to reduce the risk of hydroplaning. Added lateral grooves are created to improve performance on snow covered roads.
Inside the tire you will find two steel belts that are reinforced with nylon for added strength and increased stability at higher speeds, while the polyester body plies further add to ride comfort. The KH25 is available in 15-18 inch sizes, and comes with a limited tread warranty.
Pros
- Dry and wet traction are good
- Tire provides responsive steering
- Comfortable ride for the most part
Cons
- Shorter than expected tread life
- Road noise as tire begins wearing
Overall Thoughts
Kumho offers some excellent tires in their lineup, but unfortunately we do not feel the KH25 is one of them. In fact this touring all-season model ranks very close to the bottom of its class. Why do we say that? Two major reasons; way too much road noise that is loud and annoying, and a treadlife that doesn’t last as long as it should.
We do like the dry traction and steering feel the tire provides, and wet traction is pretty good on this tire. Ride comfort is ok if you don’t factor in the tire noise.
Reviews and ratings from other drivers confirm our own feelings; this is a tire that few drivers would consider buying again. We feel that a much better choice for a Kumho tire in this class would be the Solus TA31 or the TA71.
