Kumho Ecsta MX Run Flat KU15 Tire Review & Rating

The Ecsta MX Run Flat KU15 is Kumho’s ultra-high performance tire that also sports the latest in self-supporting run flat technology. Built especially for the Chevy Corvette C-5, it is also used as a replacement option on several other high performance sport coupes.

A high-tech silica tread compound is molded into a directional tread pattern that provides for exceptional dry and wet traction. The tire’s shoulder block design increases cornering grip and gives the tire a quicker steering response. It further provides added braking and acceleration capabilities that keep you in complete control throughout the speed range.

Four wide circumferential grooves and angled lateral grooves channel away water on rain soaked roads for increased wet handling. The result is a reduced risk of hydroplaning and added cornering performance.

Inside the tire you will find twin steel belts and two nylon cap plies that use Kumho’s ESCOT Tension Control technology for added strength, stability and overall ride comfort. A built-in rim protector has been added in order to help prevent accidental curb damage to the wheels.

Overall Thoughts

This Kumho XRP tire delivers excellent overall performance and comes in at a lower price point than the standard Goodyear O.E. tires. With its attractive tread design, the MX provides excellent dry and wet traction. It will take about anything you want to throw at it and not break loose in the rear. Cornering grip is just below that of the Michelin Super Sport’s in our opinion. Not bad, but not close to being the best in class.

One thing you will likely notice immediately is the lower road noise on this tire. For a run-flat tire it is pretty impressive. Treadlife is about what we expected for a tire in this class and could be a bit better.

Overall, for the money and performance this tire provides, it’s a solid value and a very good choice in max performance summer tires for your Corvette or other sports car.

Warranty

Kumho provides a limited tread warranty on the MX. Tire uniformity is guaranteed for the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear. Materials and workmanship are backed for 6-years and include free replacement during the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear. A prorated amount is given for the remaining time period or down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.
