Kumho Ecsta LE Sport Tire Review & Rating

The Ecsta LE Sport KU39 from Kumho is designed to provide maximum summer performance for today’s hottest sports cars, coupes and sedans. Engineered with road gripping traction and high speed stability, the LE Sport also delivers enhanced ride comfort and reduced road noise.

A unique High Grip Performance Resin tread compound is created to provide increased cornering grip. An optimized asymmetric footprint combines with wider outside shoulder blocks and a continuous center rib for added high speed stability and quicker steering response, something this tire does an excellent job at.

The tire’s wider circumferential grooves and lateral slots provide added traction and handling on wet road surfaces. They also channel away water and reduce the risk of hydroplaning in wet conditions.

Driving comfort and lower road noise is another area that Kumho spent a lot of time on when making the KU39. The variable tread block design enhances ride comfort by reducing the noise throughout the speed range.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts that are strengthened with jointless nylon for increased handling and durability. A special Lyocell cord banding features added strength and stability than a normal polyester cord. Sizes are available ranging from 16-20 inches, and speeds ratings of Z and Y.

Overall Thoughts

The Kumho LE Sport is a nice find among max performance summer tires. Dry and wet traction are both very good, and cornering grip is outstanding. Expect to find quicker steering response and good stability, especially at higher speeds.

What may surprise you is the quieter and more comfortable ride on a tire like this. It’s not harsh like you’ll find with some higher performance low profile tires. The biggest knock on this tire is treadlife. It’s shorter than we like, which is something mentioned in several driver reviews and ratings. Of course, your own driving habits are likely going to be a big factor.

Overall, the excellent performance for the lower cost this tire provides more than offsets what may be a shorter treadlife. We give it a rank in the upper half of its class. While not on the level as the Michelin Super Sport or Continental DW among others, it still holds its own on the street.

Warranty

Kumho provides a limited tread warranty on the LE Sport KU39. Tire uniformity is guaranteed for the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear. Materials and workmanship are warranted for 6-years and include free replacement during the first 2/32 inch of wear. A prorated amount is given for the remaining time period or down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth. There is also a one-year or first 2/32 inch of wear road hazard warranty included for this model.
