As the newest addition to the Hankook winter tire lineup, the Winter iPike W409 is designed to provide high performance traction in all types of winter driving conditions. Developed for drivers of sport coupes, luxury sedans, minivans and crossovers, the W409 comes with the latest in winter tire technology.

The tread has been given a wider and broader width to provide added stability on all road surfaces, regardless of how extreme they are. The wider contact patch also enhances dry pavement traction and cornering maneuverability.

As a studdable tread design, the iPike W409 features six stud pin rows (instead of the normal three rows) that increase grip on snow and icy roads. Don’t think this tire needs studs to perform well though because it doesn’t, but they are there in the event you need them. Hankook’s Stiffness Control Contour Theory combines with dense sipes and a V-shaped tread pattern around the tread to boost overall performance in any winter road conditions you come across.

A unique tread pitch sequence and angled sub-grooves enhance traction and handling, while also reducing outside road noise. Many drivers have made mention that this tire rides quietly and comfortably.

Inside the tire are two high-tensile steel belts that are reinforced with spirally wrapped nylon for added strength and durability. They also provide increased steering response and improve treadlife. Hankook has sizes available from 14-18 inches.

Overall Thoughts

These Hankook iPikes do not seem to get the attention that snow tires like the X-Ice, Blizzak and others get, but this is an excellent performing winter tire. The grip on all types of road surfaces is as good as other leading competitor tires, and ride comfort is equally as impressive.

Being high performance minded, we naturally would like to see a bit more grip in the corners on dry pavement, but this is a winter tire and not designed to corner like a summer tire. The prices on this Hankook model are lower than other competitors and when you look at overall performance, this tire provides excellent value for the money spent.
