Hankook Ventus HRII H405 Tire Review & Rating

The Ventus HRII H405 from Hankook is one of the company’s high performance all-season tires. Also used as original equipment on many of today’s sport coupes, sedans and other vehicles, theH405 is engineered to provide year round handling for a budget-friendly price.

An all-season silica-enhanced tread compound combines with a directional low profile tread design to increase dry surface traction and cornering performance. The footprint on the tire is noticeably wider to further enhance traction and braking. Unidirectional grooves add stability throughout the speed range and increase steering response.

Three circumferential grooves and the tire’s unique sweeping grooves add traction on wet pavement and expel more water from under the tire, which also reduces the risk of hydroplaning in rough weather.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts with nylon reinforcement and a polyester cord body to add more strength and stability to the tire at higher speeds. They also promote more even tread wear and ride comfort. The H405 carries an H-speed rating and is available in a variety of 16-17 inch sizes.

Pros

  • Dry traction acceleration and braking are very good
  • Cornering performance is exceptional
  • Ride comfort is surprisingly good
  • Budget friendly price makes for an excellent value

Cons

  • A little extra road noise
  • Winter handling

Overall Thoughts

The Ventus HR II H405 may surprise you in how well it performs. Just by looking at the aggressive tread design you can see that it is going to provide outstanding traction and cornering power. What you might not expect though is the level of comfort the tire also provides. There is a little extra road noise on this tire, but nothing that would cause us issues.

Even though this is an all-season tire, you need to use caution when driving on snow and ice. This is not a winter tire obviously, and the lack of adequate traction in deeper snow and ice shows.

Overall, the low price point and better than average performance make this model a good value for drivers looking for a high performance all-season tire.
