Hankook Ventus AS RH07 Tire Review & Rating

Engineered to provide all-season traction and handling, the Ventus AS RH07 from Hankook is built as a replacement for original equipment tires. Designed for drivers of SUV’s, pickups and crossovers, the RH07 offers a comfortable ride and a longer tread life.

An all-season tread compound and symmetrical tread pattern combine with a continuous center rib to give the tire added stability throughout the speed range. It is built to add more feel and confidence behind the wheel. Larger shoulder blocks enhance dry traction and cornering power.

Hankook Ventus AS RH07 Tire Review

Hankook has added six circumferential grooves around the Ventus AS to help in expelling more water from under the tread when driving on wet or slush covered road surfaces. It provides more safety by increasing hydroplane resistance and adding much needed traction in bad weather. The RH07 features a multi-sipe design around the tread for more bite when you find yourself driving through snow covered roads.

Inside the tire you will find a computer-optimized profile that gives the tire a more rounded design. Steel belted construction provides added strength and durability, while also promoting more even tread wear. This tire comes in a wide array of 16-20 inch sizes, and Hankook backs up the tread life with a 65,000 mile guarantee.

Pros

  • Traction on dry and wet pavement
  • Cornering grip is above average
  • Ride comfort

Cons

  • Winter handling
  • Treadlife
  • Road noise

Overall Thoughts

Hankook makes a lot of great performing tires, but the RH07 feels like it was rushed out the door because it does not measure up to the company’s higher standards that we are used to over the years. Sure, dry and wet traction and handling are good and ride comfort is nice. But it appears that is where things end for this tire.

Tread noise is a big issue with this model, especially after 15-20K miles. It goes from not so quiet to being far too noisy. Other reviews mention the tread still having many miles left, but the tire noise is too much to take. Another area to consider is winter road traction and handling. Although this is not a winter tire, even driving on light snow can be challenging. Finally, treadlife has shown to be less than expected, despite the fact there is a 65,000 mile warranty.

Overall, the negatives with this tire far outweigh the positives, which is why we rank it close to the bottom of this category. There are much better choices in this class of all-season touring tires.
