Hankook Optimo H724 Tire Review & Rating

The Optimo H724 is Hankook’s standard all-season touring tire that is built to provide good traction and handling, to go with a more comfortable ride. Designed for drivers of coupes, sedans, minivans and smaller pickups, the H724 is also used as original equipment on several of today’s new vehicles.

An all-season tread compound features a continuous center rib for enhanced stability and steering response on both dry and wet pavement. Rounded shoulders with deeper grooves increase dry traction handling and cornering performance.

Four circumferential grooves that are computer-optimized evacuate water from under the tread and reduce the risk of hydroplaning, while multiple sipes around the tire provide added bite when driving through slush and snow covered roadways.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts that add more strength and durability, while also promoting more even tread wear and a longer lifespan. Hankook offers your choice of an S or T-speed rating on the H724. This model also comes with a 70,000 mile tread guarantee.

Pros

  • Very good traction on dry or wet roads
  • Steering is responsive
  • Tires ride comfortably and quietly
  • Outstanding value for the money

Cons

  • Would like to see a little better treadwear

Overall Thoughts

For anyone looking for a discounted all-season tire to fit 14-15 inch wheel sizes, this Hankook H724 is very good choice. The tire gives very good traction on dry or wet pavement. Grip on snow and ice is a different story, as this tire doesn’t handle heavier amounts of snow too well.

The steering is crisp and provides good feel. Treadwear is not bad, but it could be a little better than it is.

Overall, the H724 is a middle of the class performer. It does feature a lower price point than many of the big name brands, which gives it good value for the money for basic all-season driving needs.

  1. I had the Hankook Optimo H724 P185/75 R 14 89S on my 1979 Volov 244 DL for about 7 years. I only used it in the summer, but it was a quiet, comfortable tire. There was some aqua planing tendencies in heavier rain, but for the most part, I was happy with the tire. This past April 12, 2021, I had the General Altimax RT43 205/70 R14 installed. Initially, it seemed like a quieter, smoother tire, but now that summer is over and my windows are closed more often, I’m noticing quite a row from the tires, a high frequency buzz from 40 Km/h on up, similar to off-road tires or, agricultural tires. I’m planning to go back to the Hankook Optimo H724. I miss its quietness and absolutely smooth balance.

  2. Great tire, would definitely buy again. Excellent dry handling but lacks in wet. Sharp and quick handling. Have 60,000+ miles on them now and it’s got 1/32″ left before it reaches replacement marks. I drive hard and many times on gravel as we live in the country (many potholes). I’ve only had one leak and that was due to a nail, installed an interior patch and have never had any other issues. Low noise at highway speed. Never have driven them in ice as we live in the Heart of Tejas.

  3. I have a 2015 Ford Flex that I bought 9 months ago with 122 miles on it. Now it sits on 12000 miles and I have a tire that is shredding and coming off in chunks. I was informed that it is due to gravels from my driveway that I have lived on for 3 months. I’m sorry but if they can’t make a tire that allows me to go home everyday and falls apart that easily then obviously it’s junk
