Hankook DynaPro AT RF08 Tire Review & Rating

Built for all-season and light all-terrain use, the Hankook DynaPro AT RF08 has been the 75 series original equipment tire choice for the best-selling Ford F-150 for several years. It’s also available as a replacement tire for all pickups and SUV’s with a P235/75R-17 fitment requirement.

A tougher all-season tread compound is matched with a computerized tread design that is engineered to give the RF08 maximum year-round performance in all types of weather and on various types of terrain. The tire’s footprint and outside shoulder blocks are made to provide optimal handling and increased braking and acceleration on dry pavement.

Hankook DynaPro AT RF08 Tire Review

Circumferential grooves around the tire evacuate water from under the tread for improved wet handling, as well as better resistance to hydroplaning. Hankook has added sipes around the tire to increase grip on snow covered road surfaces.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts and a jointless twin cap ply that adds strength and stability at higher speeds. It also provides added ride comfort and more even treadwear. A built-in rim protector helps prevent accidental curb damage to your wheels. Hankook also includes a 50,000 mile tread guarantee.

Pros

  • Very good dry and gravel road traction
  • Ride is comfortable and quiet
  • 50,000 mile tread warranty

Cons

  • Winter weather traction
  • Cornering grip
  • Improve the clean out capabilities
  • Nowhere close to being an off-road tire

Overall Thoughts

Driving on the Hankook RF08 may give you a kind of love/hate feeling. On the one hand you can expect to find very good traction on dry road surfaces. The ride is pretty comfortable and quiet for the most part, and Hankook has provided a nice 50,000 mile warranty on the tread. In addition, traction on dirt and gravel roads is also very capable for those living in rural areas. Sounds good so far.

On the other hand this tire simply fails when winter weather rolls around. This is evidenced by the many driver reviews stating the same thing. Ice handling and braking is particularly poor. The soft tread design makes cornering a bit mushy and may provide you with a little squealing when taking corners at higher speeds.

Off-road traction is nothing special with this tire as well. It just doesn’t have the all-terrain grip that will inspire any kind of confidence. The tighter tread pattern picks up rocks and mud and doesn’t clean out real well.

Overall, we rank the RF08 in the lower part of this class. Yes, it may work well for original equipment fitments, but there are many other tires in this class such as the Michelin LTX A/T 2 and Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure among others that deliver much better performance.
