GT Radial Touring VP Plus Tire Review & Rating

Built to deliver all-season performance in year-round conditions, the GT Radial Touring VP Plus is the company’s latest addition in their tire lineup. Created for use on all types of coupes, sedans, minivans and crossovers, the Touring VP Plus also features a budget-friendly price point.

GT Radial uses an advanced all-season rubber tread compound with a symmetric tread pattern that helps this tire provide reliable dry traction and handling. Larger outside tread blocks add to cornering grip and stability, while a notched center rib delivers quicker steering response.

Four circumferential grooves and full-depth sipes increase traction on wet pavement and reduce the risk of hydroplaning. Hats off to GT Radial for making the sipes full-depth so that you’ll continue to have dependable traction through the life of the tire.

The tires’ variable tread pitch helps lower outside noise and enhances ride comfort, an area that is a real positive for this tire.

GT Radial offers sizes ranging from 14-18 inches in the Touring VP Plus, and all sizes come with a 50k mile tread warranty as well.

Pros

  • Dependable dry and wet traction
  • Responsive steering and good feel for the road
  • Comfortable ride quality
  • Value and performance for the money

Cons

  • Not the best in deep snow, ice or hardpack

Overall Thoughts

The GT Radial Touring VP Plus has shown to be an affordable and reliable option in lower costing all-season tires. You may notice that it looks somewhat similar to the Masxtour All Season that has been a popular model as well.

Traction on dry and wet road surfaces is predictable and you can expect good cornering stability whether around town or at higher speeds on the highway. The added sipes and lateral grooves do their job on wet streets, as well as give it ok performance in lighter snow and slush conditions.

Traction in deep snow, ice and hardpack is not the best, but this is an all-season tire and to be expected. Ride comfort is good on all but the worst road surfaces. Finally, treadlife has shown to be better than you might expect from a low-cost tire.

Overall, while it may not be among the top tires like the Continental TrueContact, Michelin Premier A/S and others, if a dependable low-priced all-season tire is what you’re looking for in everyday driving conditions, the Touring VP Plus is a solid option.

  1. I have the 205 75 14 GT VP TOURING Radial tires on my enclosed single axle trailer and air pressure set at 35 psi and have pulled at speeds of 80 mph with no problem so my question is, is this a good tire for trailers and should I change them and air pressure recommendations. Thanks john

  2. I bought these tires about a year ago. I put them on a 2011 Town and Country and they have held up well. Drove them on ice and snow, rain, gravel and up to highway speeds. They are wearing extremely well, I rotate about every 8000 miles. They are quiet and grip as well as any M+S radial does winter, which isn’t great. The ride does seem a little stiff. For the price they are just great for a van. Put some GT’s on my daughters Jeep Patriot (two years ago) and she says they are fine, but I don’t believe she ever thinks about her tires unless there is a problem, which there hasn’t been.

  3. Tires ride smooth but I can feel every bump in the road. I noticed this immediately after I purchased and will probably change to a different tire.

  4. I JUST BOUGHT SET OF 4 GT RADIAL TIRES FOR MY 2015 SCION XB. SO FAR I REALLY LIKE THE TIRES. FOR SURE THEYRE MUCH BETTER THAN MY ORIGINAL TIRES BRIDETON TURANSA. I GET NICE SMOOTH RIDE.

  5. Works well on Honda Civic. Seen no issues. Quiet. Good handling. And no vibrations even at 100 mph. Great tire especially for the price.

  6. bought a set of these tires about a year ago. Currently have just over 34,000 miles on them and they still look new. I have been very happy with these tires, they ride great, and are quiet. The ride is very similar to Michelin’s. No issues in water. I would not hesitate in buying these again!

  7. Recently I purchased an all-wheel drive vehicle that has these tires on it, less than 300 miles on them, so still pretty new. Snowed two days ago around 2-3 inches I was sliding all over the road trying to get home, luckily, no one was on the road I definitely would of hit another vehicle because of the lack of control. They are definitely not an all-season tire and if you live somewhere where it snows do not purchase these tires. They will likely end you.

  8. I have GT Radial Touring Plus tires on a 2012 Acura RDX. I like them, but they don’t seem to lessen the stiff ride the RDX has. It seems as if they don’t absorb the bumps as well as Bridgestone or Continental say they will.

  9. I just got a set of 4 for my 2015 Toyota Sienna at my local America’s Tire. Appearance wise they look pretty good. I paid $350.00 otd for all 4. Don’t know much about these tires but I will give my review after about 1 month into my daily commute. Price wise they are very reasonable.

    1. Hey Thibone, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with us. I am definitely waiting for your feedback!

  10. I have a Lexus RX 350 and needed tires for one more year on my lease. 235/55/20. They ride great and stop on a dime in both dry and wet roads. Handling is also good. If I didn’t know better I’d say I still had Michelin’s on my vehicle.

  11. Well, Ian, these comments are all over the map, and T’s alarmist comments still stand in sharp contrast to the tire description above. It’d be nice to see further data, but thanks for what you’ve got here anyway. I’m thinking that the reason the description still stands is that T’s comments were considered and dismissed. M’s comment appears to be opinion-before-thought noise, so I’ll give ’em a try. Thanks, J, for moderating that comment with a comparison, and maybe M should try getting a non-DIY alignment.

  12. these tires are the absolute worst on wet roads. The tread pattern does NOT allow water to escape to the sides of the tire. MASSIVE hydroplaning at any speed above 35mph!! DANGEROUS!!!!

  13. I just got these tires they are great I don’t know what Mondoo is talking about they are way quieter than the Continental tires I had on my car prior to these tires!

    1. I just got 1 tire in SB CA, I had a flat so I needed a tire asap. It was a discarded tire & free, it looks fairly new, lotsa tread & grip but a bit loud on my left rear. I know my car is grabbing the road. I will pay attention in the ☔ rain, thanks for the information on hydroplaning. The tire shined up super nice.
