Goodyear Eagle LS-2 Tire Review & Rating

The Goodyear Eagle LS-2 has been designed to provide all-season sport traction and handling to go along with a smoother and more comfortable ride. Used also as original equipment on several minivans, crossovers and sport utility vehicles, the LS2 will also fit many luxury sedans and other vehicles.

An all-season premium tread compound and symmetric triple tread block pattern give this tire increased handling performance on dry road surfaces. Independent tread blocks enhance cornering grip and add more responsive steering and control. Tire stability is very good on this tire.

Goodyear Eagle LS-2 Tire Review

Handling performance on wet pavement is increased due in part to the tire’s wider circumferential grooves that channel away water and reduce the risk of hydroplaning. Added sipes around the tread provide biting edges on light snow covered pavement. Goodyear’s computer optimized tread blocks lower road noise and improve overall ride quality.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts that are nylon reinforced for added strength and durability at higher speeds, while the polyester cord body increases ride comfort. Sizes are available from 15-20 inches, and the LS-2 comes with either an H or V-speed rating.

Pros

  • Good dry traction
  • Above average cornering grip
  • Responsive steering and tire stability

Cons

  • Wet and winter traction could be better
  • Would like to see improved treadlife
  • Bump up the ride comfort

Overall Thoughts

The LS-2, or Luxury Sport 2 as it’s known as, has been around for a few years now and it may be starting to show its age. We applaud Goodyear in providing this tire with good handling and cornering grip on most road surfaces. You’ll find the steering is responsive and the tire remains stable in all speed ranges.

While those are the areas where this tire does ok, the areas that need improvement are numerous. Traction on wet pavement is a big area in which we would like to see much better performance. We’ve heard drivers mention the tire slides too easily on wet streets around corners, as well as hydroplaning issues. In addition, winter traction and handling is similar to that on the original LS… quite poor. Finally, treadlife is another area where many drivers have mentioned they have not gotten the life they expected.

Overall, we rate this model in the lower half of the touring all-season category. We feel there are much better models available such as the Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring or Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus to name just a couple.

  1. I just changed out original Goodyear 275/55R20 Eagle LS2 tires from a GMC Sierra after 5 years and 79,000 miles. They still had some life left in them. Mostly city driving and a lot of stop and go. Happy with results. Replaced all four with same tire mdel to keep original look, performance and experience.

  2. Have these on my Avenger and in the last 3 years (about 50,000 miles total) I’ve gotten 3 flats, 1 sidewall bubble, and 2 slow leaks. I blame a lot of it on the terrible roads where I live but come on, I should not have to replace these tires this often. Switching brands.

  3. I have 107,000 miles on my current pair of LS2’s and they are still going strong just like my Subaru. I guess I should replace them but wear is still good. Crazy good tires for me.

  4. OEM tires on 2016 Cayenne GTS. Got about 42,000 miles before they started to wear out (more in front than rear). Ride, comfort, handling and cornering were fine. Handled light snow well; ok with medium snow (2-4 inches). Almost all highway and suburban driving; I tend to drive fast and little hard, so consider myself fortunate to have gotten as much mileage as I have.

  5. I went to good year salesman Jacques Dewalt 2/1/20 I was going for a new set of tires for my 2015 Jeep Cherokee limited if you ask me the tires don’t ride good, you feel every bump in the road for some new tires.I want my other tires back and very unhappy.

  6. Our 2016 BMW T3 came equipped with LS-2 tires. At 22,000 miles the front tires were worn out and the rear ones had to be replaced because of leakage around the rims from dry rot. At 81 years old, I never speed or abuse the car and otherwise it is in perfect condition. Although made in the USA, I’ll never buy another Good Year tire.

  7. Took it in to dealer after i had to run from a roadrage incident. I had to go fast to get away from this fool at 100 mph the steering wheel started to shimmy and a whole lot of noise coming from the tires. I finally got away taking my life in my own hands. They balanced my tires for about 80.00 i went out on a long stretch of smooth highway to test them they were not as bad but just the we don’t know why it does this scares me. I watched cops their tires on the same yr model truck did not seem to have this problem . Looks like alot of manufacturers are not using this tire anymore.

  8. I’ve put 19083 miles on these and my tire rotation guys are warning me (yellow on multi point inspections) tires on way out. I not happy. Leased the car in July 2016 and would not expect them to need to be replaced this soon.
