Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady Tire Review & Rating

Set for a 2017 launch, the Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady all-season tire is being touted by Goodyear as its best traction tire ever. Despite the popularity of the TripleTred All Season, this new model is the company’s first all-weather tire in the Assurance lineup and includes the latest in tire technology.

An all-weather rubber tread compound and asymmetric tread pattern provide dependable dry traction and handling. Goodyear’s new 3D TredLock technology blades are designed to deliver increased cornering grip regardless of weather conditions, including snow and slush.

Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady Tire Review

The tires’ circumferential grooves and sweeping tread grooves further enhance grip on wet pavement and reduce the risk of hydroplaning, while Zig-zag sipes help on both rain soaked, as well as snow and slush covered road surfaces.

Similar to the Michelin Premier A/S, this new Assurance WeatherReady has the same type of tread groove technology that continues to provide like-new traction as the tire wears down. It allows the tread to close together tightly during harder cornering maneuverss, while remaining open and providing additional biting edges for better traction on wet or snow covered pavement.

You’ll find the Goodyear Weather Ready sports the three-peak mountain snowflake emblem that designates it as a tire that meets the severe snow service requirements.

Goodyear is offering a wide range of 15-20 inch sizes that are built for use on all makes and models of coupes, sedans, minivans, crossovers and smaller SUV’s. All sizes feature a 700 AA UTQG rating.

Pros

  • Excellent dry and wet traction/braking
  • Winter traction nearly on par with dedicated winter tires
  • Evolving traction grooves and treadlock technology

Cons

  • No major issues with this tire at this early stage

Overall Thoughts

This new Goodyear WeatherReady is a welcome addition to the Goodyear lineup. We’ve been waiting for a true all-weather tire to be made available, and this latest offering fills the need very well. It should compete favorably with other all-weather tires like the Nokian WRG3, although we rate the Nokian a bit higher in overall performance.

Taking a page from the Michelin Premier A/S, this new WeatherReady features new technology that allows for new biting edges to appear as the tire begins wearing. I would expect this to become standard with most all tires within the next 5-10 years.

Traction on dry, wet and snow covered streets is excellent. The new technology and tread compound combine to provide better braking and acceleration, while not adversely affecting handling.

At this early stage there is no real glaring downside to this model. No, it’s not the cheapest all-weather tire, but delivers good value for the cost. Overall, Goodyear has a winner with the WeatherReady.

  1. Definitely great grip in snow but there are a couple of issues. Both our cars are FWD and we have no problem getting around in bad weather. These tires grip as if they have claws. They are noisy but that’s the price one pays for this level of traction. The tires on our heavier crossover developed slight but visible bulges at around 40k. The ride got a little rumbly and upon inspection I noticed the bulges. Goodyear said they are normal and typically develop at the seams. I don’t have a problem with that but I am not happy with the rumble as if something is out of balance.

  2. Hi My Goodyear weather ready tires are the worst! Very noisy and tones change depending on road surface wet dry Florida Boston cape cod. NERY had tires this noisy. Been on my Suburu forester from 2017.
    Wont purchase again.

  3. Bought 4 tires just over 3 years ago and have done only 13,000 kms. After 2 years I had a lot of front end skidding and bumping when turning and only during wet weather. Spoke to the assistant manager and he said he had never heard of it. Went back again and the manager got a technician to ride with me. The technician said these tires are made for high annual mileage and after a few years the sidewall gets very hard and there is no flex. I was not aware of these stipulations. Interestingly the ride is now very harsh and when turning out of my driveway or into a mall parking spot a hubcap will occasionally fall off. The tech claims its because there is no flex in the tire and the wheel is flexing (?) causing the cap to come off. Under these conditions I can say these tires are unsafe. I wrote to Goodyear in Toronto with this complaint but have had no reply.

  4. Had them.installedon a 2012 GMC Acadia. The car Sashays down the road. Gyrates all over. Dealer says maybe a balance issue in rear, rebalancced tires. Still does it. Back at dealer for 3rd time.
    Not very happy At All…..

  5. We just bought a 2018 pathfinder and although the Continental Sport LX tires that came with it were nice and quiet, they were a bit slippery when we had a skim of snow last week.. Our area does not see much snow, but when it does, our city is ill prepared so often you are driving on packed snow… plus I live at the top of a hill that is a 900m drive straight up or down so we need good grippy tires with more snow traction rating. My old Murano had the Good year Triple Tread AND I LOVED THEM! so naturally I trusted Fountain Tire when they said these were better (after we did our independent research).

Yesterday and today we saw a lot of snow fall, so I drove around my area… up hills, mountains, around corners, breaking, stopping from a full stop, stopping on the downhill, stopping on ice on a hill, ascending the icy hill, and tested out when I was in Auto (not full 4×4 locked) vs Locked 4×4. I had a little bit of slip around corners if I was too fast, but when locked, I was fine…. overall, I just simply cruised around like I was driving on dry cement. I was not driving over 40km probably (overall I matched road conditions) but I felt assured that when driving at safe speeds for road conditions, my car (and tires) are going to get me where I want to go safely. This weekend my husband is heading to Manning Park up Crows Nest pass towing a small utility trailer with a group of scouts and we feel pretty good about him going. He will also take chains in case, but I really, really liked what I felt today testing them out! (to mention, I have 27 years experience driving and am not an idiot when I am out there….). I passed a Jeep 4×4 with big ass tires at the bottom of my hill, slipping and stuck… I just purred past him in 4×4 mode… not one slip of the tires. So something to be said for awd mixed with a good grip. 🙂

    1. I noticed road noise to be ever so slightly more, and the sidewalls are stiffer so the ride is not as soft, but I don’t mind… Its a good trade off for safety.

  6. Great light snow and slush traction on my 2015 Murano Platinum so far with 5K miles on them. Excellent hydroplaning resistance also at brisk highway speeds even with heavy rain. So much better rain and snow traction than the original tires that came stock on my vehicle. Only drawback is slightly more coarse pavement road noise than original tires.

    1. I just purchased 4 new Goodyear Assurance Weather Ready tires and I can’t comment on traction, only owned them 3 days and it’s summer, but the road noise is louder that I expected. I had 2 previous sets of 4 Goodyear Assurance Triple tred and the Weather Ready have louder road noise. Has anyone else experience this?

  7. Excellent upgrade for my Lexes RX450h! Original Tires stink! The Goodyear WeatherReady made a big difference all the way around! Lost 1 mile per gallon but well worth it for the safety of this tire!!! Goodyear treated me good all around with install, and price! U will not be disappointed with this tire!

    1. Hi Don
We’re extremely happy to hear about your great experience with the tire, and thank you for sharing this information. As stated in our review, the team didn’t find any real issues with the Goodyear Assurance and the model offers great handling on both dry and wet surfaces.

  8. Purchased these tires for my 2015 BMW 428i convertible because I got tired of run flats poor ride performance and mileage so went with the Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady all-season tire in 225/45/R18 and now have a great ride and responsive tires that handle all weather conditions mainly dry and rain here in the south. Feels like a whole new car again and makes me want to just drop the top and drive around. Well worth it and run flats only have a benefit of maybe keeping you from being stranded with a flat since you can drive 50 miles up to 50 mph but their rough ride and poor performace are now a thing of the past and I have towing from my insurance and rarely have been stranded since most flats are slow leaks and I keep an cigarette air pump in my cars in case I need to get to a tire shop. I have been driving for over 50 years of driving and suggest if you have a vehicle that takes a size that Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady all-season tires offer then get these and you will not be disappointed.

    1. Hey Harvey
We’re glad to know you’ve had a great experience using the Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady. We share your sentiments as our testing revealed it to be an excellent tire as well.

  9. Amazing these 245/60R18 105H Blk on Pilot 2012, biggest engine
    in every way EXCEPT
acceleration, passing, esp. on minor bumpy roads
= they actually try to PULL the steering wheel out of your hands
    one way, then the other
until you get off the gas and then they begin to settle down

These events make us a bit unsettled when cornering at “high” speeds on freeway ramps 60ft in the air, regardless of concrete rails/walls

  10. Purchased the assurance weather ready tires for my 2017 Toyota rav 4, the original tires had worn out in 18,000 miles after the first year. been driving with them for the past couple weeks and may or may not have lost mileage but they seem to make a softer ride. Today we happen to have awaken form a big snow storm in the buffalo,ny area, with 6-10 inches of heavy wet snow and schools and businesses closed. Got up early today to clear driveway and car and drive my wife 10 miles to work. Naturally the roads have not been cleared yet but the car drove amazingly through all this stuff. No problem stopping or steering through it. My idiot light showing tires or wheels slipping never appeared once on the trip! Probably the first time I heave ever driven confidently in any snow! I love these tires ! I had taken a chance with these being rather new on the market but I was very impressed with the reviews that people had left and decided to go for it! Glad I did! I would recommend these to anyone! Also felt I had gotten a great price with 50$ off and 200$ rebate on line ordering and installing the next day at a local goodyear tire store.

    1. Hey, I am really pleased to hear you had a good experience with these tires. Good luck with the tread life and keep us updated!

    2. Great to hear. I also have a 2017 RAV4 and will be putting these tires to the test through the Rocky Mountains this weekend.

    1. They are available at Just Tires – I might buy a set of four of ASSURANCE WEATHERREADY but I am concerned that there are no reviews for them
