General Grabber HD Tire Review & Rating

The new for 2017 General Grabber HD is designed as an all-season tire that focuses on providing year-round traction, stability and longer tread life. Built for owners of pickups, vans and other commercial vehicles, this tire is made with strength and durability in mind.

Due in part to General Tire’s Duragen technology, which features a cut and chip resistant tread compound, as well as two ultra-strength steel belts and a symmetric tread pattern, gives this model the ability to haul heavy loads without sacrificing overall performance.

General Grabber HD Tire Review

The tread design has been optimized to provide a smoother, more comfortable ride, which is an added plus for this tire. General has added four circumferential grooves that evacuate water in wet road conditions and reduce the risks of hydroplaning.

Added sipes around the tread and numerous independent tread blocks combine to increase traction on snow covered pavement. While not carrying the three-peak mountain/snowflake emblem for severe snow service capabilities, this tire holds its own for the most part on snow.

General Tire offers a number of 15, 16 and 17-inch sizes in the Grabber HD, and LT sizes come with an E load rating. A limited treadwear warranty is also included.

Pros

  • Very good dry and wet traction
  • Strong and durable tire
  • Treadlife has shown to be good
  • Good ride quality

Cons

  • Deep snow and ice traction

Overall Thoughts

This latest General tire model has upped the performance levels for anyone looking for a reliable, heavy duty commercial highway all-season tire. Whether added to your truck, van or other commercial vehicle, the Grabber HD provides solid traction and cornering stability in dry and wet driving conditions.

Unlike many of its competitors, the General Grabber is quiet and gives you a smooth ride. It’s optimized tread design and Duragen technology combine to produce a tire that wears evenly and lasts longer.

For truck, van and SUV owners who are concerned about performance and fuel efficiency, this tire delivers on its promises. General Tire states that this model will provide 25% better fuel efficiency than one of its main rivals, the Firestone Transforce HT.

So far, owners of the Grabber HD have found very few issues with this tire. Overall, we feel this new tire provides very good performance and is highly recommended.

  1. I put a set of 245/70 x17 general grabber s on rear my 2012 chevy truck and towed a car trailer with a 3,300 lb car on it
it was like riding on balloons .they are the worse tire’s I have ever used. the tire shop I bought them from said it was tire squirm and it will go away after a couple thousand miles . I say B.S.!

    1. I have a legitimate question because I am looking at putting the same tire on my 3500 van. Did you put a passenger tire on your Chevy truck or a light truck load range E tire? I’m just asking because what you’re describing sounds characteristic of a passenger tire with too heavy of a load.
