General AmeriTrac TR Tire Review & Rating

The AmeriTrac TR from General is designed to provide reliable all-season highway performance to go along with competent off-road capabilities. Built for drivers of pickups and sport utility vehicles, the TR is used as original equipment on select truck models as well.

A tougher all-season tread compound is made to be cut and chip resistant for added protection, while also extending treadlife. The tire’s computer designed tread pattern enhances traction on both dry and wet road surfaces. You’ll find this model also meets the standards for severe snow service requirements, which gives it good winter weather performance.

General AmeriTrac TR Tire Review

The AmeriTrac TR’s tread is designed to deliver increased performance off-road in light terrains such as dirt, mud, grass and gravel. It’s design is further made to self-clean itself of mud, as well as kicking out small rocks and gravel.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts for added strength and durability. A polyester cord body enhances ride comfort and handling. General offers the TR in 17 inch sizes, including P-metric and LT sizes.

Pros

  • Dry traction is very good
  • Adequate off-road light terrain performance
  • Road noise

Cons

  • Wet handling
  • Ride could be more comfortable
  • Treadlife

Overall Thoughts

The AmeriTrac TR is one of those tires that isn’t what we would say is terrible, but at the same time it doesn’t do anything exceptionally well either. Dry traction is a plus on this tire, while off-road performance is adequate in lighter terrain.

We would like to see better wet handling performance from the tread, and the ride could be a little softer. Bumps can be harsh at times. Treadlife is ok, but it could be longer in our opinion.

Overall, we rank the TR in lower half of the on and off road class. There are many other tires that perform higher than this model.
