Firestone Winterforce 2 Tire Review & Rating

The new for 2017 Firestone Winterforce 2 is the company’s next generation studdable winter tire that is designed to replace the original Winterforce that has been a popular model for several years now.

Built for all types of coupes, sedans and minivans, the Winterforce 2 has been created to deliver dependable traction and handling on snow, ice, slush and other winter conditions, while featuring a price that is substantially lower than other top winter tires.

Firestone Winterforce 2 Tire Review

Sporting the 3-peak Mountain Snowflake symbol, this winter tire is manufactured using a unique cold weather compound that is engineered to remain pliable in colder temperatures for increased performance. A directional tread pattern with deep full-depth sipes and open shoulder slots provide the traction and grip you look for on ice and snow.

The tires’ sipes and wider circumferential grooves evacuate water and slush from the contact patch for enhanced traction and reduced hydroplane risks. Firestone has given this winter tire the ability to accept #11 studs for additional traction in the harshest of winter conditions if need be. However, this tire provides solid performance even without the addition of studs.

Firestone offers 14 to 18-inch sizes, and all sizes come with an S-speed rating. A limited tread warranty is also included. (It should be noted that the Winterforce 2 is nearly identical to the Winterforce 2 UV, which is designed for light trucks and SUV’s.)

Pros

  • Winter traction, grip, braking and handling
  • Wet traction and handling
  • Treadwear
  • Value for the lower cost

Cons

  • Noise
  • Comfort

Overall Thoughts

This new Firestone Winterforce 2 is equipped with all the features needed for safe and reliable winter driving. It gives you the traction, grip and handling needed when you’re traveling on snow or ice. Its durability and its resistance to hydroplaning are other key benefits of this tire, that every coupe, sedan, wagon and minivan owner should be aware of.

Like many winter tires, the Winterforce 2 is not as quiet as your everyday all-season tire. Comfort is good, but arguably not as comfortable as you’ll find on a Michelin X-Ice or General Arctic tire.

Overall, the Firestone Winterforce 2 is a very good, affordable, durable winter tire, that includes unique features that allow it to give you better traction and grip in all types of winter conditions. The lower price over similar models makes it a solid value for budget-minded drivers needing a good performing winter tire.
