Firestone Winterforce Tire Review & Rating
The Winterforce from Firestone is built to deliver dependable performance in light and deep snow, ice, sleet, rain and other rough winter conditions. Designed for drivers of coupes, sedans and minivans, the Winterforce is available in a wide range of sizes from 13-18 inches.
A tough winter tread compound and directional tread pattern provide increased traction on dry or wet road surfaces. Steering is responsive and crisp for a snow tire due to the independent treadblocks.
High density siping around the tread and an optimized shoulder block design enhance traction and grip on packed snow and ice. The tire is studdable and will accept TSMI #12 silver-colored metallic winter studs for added traction and handling in severe conditions.
Inside the tire you will find two steel belts and a polyester cord body that add increased strength and durability, as well as enhanced riding comfort and better overall treadwear. The Winterforce features the mountain/snowflake symbol for meeting severe weather conditions. A limited tread warranty is included on this model as well.
Pros
- Good in light snow
- Dry and wet traction and handling
Cons
- Deep snow and ice traction could be better
Overall Thoughts
The Winterforce has been around for a number of years now and it’s beginning to show. Traction on anything but light amounts of snow could be much better than it is. Ice grip is equally as problematic. On the plus side we do like dry and wet traction, and road noise is not that bad for a lower cost winter tire.
Overall, Firestone makes some excellent tires, but this Winterforce model is in need of a major update in order to compete with top models from Bridgestone and Michelin among others.
