Firestone Transforce HT Tire Review & Rating

The Firestone Transforce HT is the company’s all-season commercial light truck tire that is built to deliver dependable traction and handling to go with a comfortable ride and longer treadlife. Designed for drivers of pickups, vans, and commercial vehicles, the HT is one of the more popular commercial tires on the market.

A tough all-season tread compound features L.L. Carbon for a longer lasting treadlife and enhanced year-round traction. The computerized symmetric tread pattern and continuous center rib helps this model deliver more responsive steering and increased stability at higher speeds. The tires notched shoulders and intermediate tread blocks provide added cornering performance on dry or wet pavement.

Four wide circumferential grooves channel away water and increase traction on wet road surfaces. Multiple sipes around the tire create biting edges for enhanced performance in light snow. Firestone utilizes their 5-degree noise reduction technology that eliminates most of the road noise and gives this tire a better overall ride quality.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts that are nylon reinforced for added strength and durability. A polyester cord body further improves ride comfort. Sizes are available from 15-18 inches, and feature E load ratings for heavy-duty use.

Pros

  • Dry and wet traction is very good
  • Excellent stability, especially when pulling heavy loads
  • Ride is smooth and quiet

Cons

  • Would like to see a bit more winter performance
  • Treadlife could be longer

Overall Thoughts

When it comes to getting a tire for pulling trailers, boats or other heavier loads on the highway, the Transforce HT is a solid choice. It’s a workhorse of a tire that delivers excellent traction and stability on dry or wet pavement, and a smooth and comfortable ride as well. Cornering grip and all-around stability is very good as well, whether it’s in town or at highway speeds.

The treadlife for this tire is ok, but could be better in our opinion. To be fair we have heard many drivers say that it’s a real plus. Our biggest concern with this model is its performance in deep snow and braking/acceleration on ice and hard-packed snow. It needs improvements. While not awful, it’s not great.

Overall, we feel the Transforce HT is a middle of the class performing tire.

  1. Had a set come with my new 2018 RAM 2500. Truck is meant to tow a 27′ Heritage Wilderness Light trailer, so only 33,000 miles on it. Had to replace two rears due to wear. Fronts still ok, but anticipate replacing those soon. One rear that was replaced had belts separating. Not real impressed, and not buying them as replacements. There are better performance and price points.

  2. Been on cross country trip for 3 months towing almost 9000#. Love the tires, handling and quiet. 17000 miles rotated twice so far.

  3. I have had three sets of 6 Transforce HT on my 2011 E350 DRW over that last 6 years. I drive about 30k a year and always got 45-50K out of them. I felt this was reasonable. My latest set the Transforce HT2 of six tires are 80% gone and I”ve only been 26K. Unacceptable!! Firestone comes out with a new version that is much worse. Too bad I will not buy these or any other firestone tire in the future. Tire size is 22575r16

  4. I agree that they work well in a lightly loaded truck. However, when loaded with 1700LB, the tread wear is excessive. I will not put these tires on my truck again.
