Firestone Firehawk GT Tire Review & Rating

The Firehawk GT from Firestone is designed to provide high performance traction and grip, to go with a longer tread life and all-season drivability. Engineered for drivers of sport coupes, sedans and crossovers, the GT features the latest in tire technology in its tread makeup.

An all-season silica tread compound combines with an asymmetric tread pattern and continuous center rib that increases dry pavement stability, braking and acceleration. Larger outside shoulder blocks enhance traction and provide added cornering performance throughout the speed zone.

The tire’s circumferential and lateral grooves channel away water from under the tire for increased wet road handling and improved resistance to hydroplaning. Numerous sipes around the tread provide bite on snow covered pavement. Firestone utilizes Veri-Pitch Noise Reduction in order to reduce outside road noise and maintain ride comfort.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts that are reinforced with spirally wrapped nylon for added strength and durability, as well as a longer treadlife. A polyester cord body delivers increased ride comfort and a smoother ride. Firestone has sizes available from 15-18 inches, and includes up to a 50,000 mile tread guarantee.

Pros

  • Dry traction and cornering are outstanding
  • Steering is crisp and responsive
  • Ride comfort is good for a high performance tire

Cons

  • A little extra road noise
  • Would like to see a bit more wet/winter traction
  • Treadwear is poor

Overall Thoughts

The Firehawk GT provides excellent dry traction, acceleration and braking. We would say that it is among some of the better tires in this class in this area. Wet and winter handling are so-so and could be a touch better, but still acceptable. Cornering performance and overall stability is very good, and the steering is responsive at all speeds.

While the ride is pretty comfortable for this type of tire, we would like to see less road noise. It’s nothing that you can’t get rid of by turning up the radio, but it is a little more pronounced than models from Michelin, Bridgestone, etc.

Treadlife is undoubtedly the major trouble spot on this model. It wears too quickly and this has been a big issue for many drivers in reviews on this tire. We will say that we’ve heard from some that have spoken well of the miles this tire delivers, but there are far too many on the negative side to ignore. Firestone does provide a 50K mile warranty.

Overall, we rank this model in the lower to middle of the pack for high performance all-season tires. You may want to consider other tires like the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3 Plus or Firestone’s own Firehawk AS as better options.

  1. I have 32k on my Firehawks that are on a 2016 Challenger.
The tires in general are okay but 32k for mileage on tires? Give me a break.
Note that I do not drive aggressively with this car either.

  2. 2018 Charger SXT with 18k and the tires need replacing. I can’t believe how much these tires cost and how poor they are.

  3. Very unhappy 2018 300 with 30,000 tires are very unsafe in the rain and the road noise is unbelievable will never buy Firestone again.

    1. Hello! Can you please share more details? We did feel the tires need better traction for wet/slippery road conditions and noise is definitely something Firestone should seriously consideration.

  4. I am very happy with the Firestone Firehawk tires. They say you can get 50,000 miles, I’ve got over 78,000 miles on my tires and I just replaced the 2 front tires today.I’m going to see how many more miles I get on the rear tires.

  5. 2015 300S 32,000 miles and the tires are warn out and have heavy cracking around the bead. Stopped by a Firestone store and they told me sorry the tires are warn out and there is nothing we can do. Would you like to buy anther set!? Are you freaking kidding me? No I wouldn’t and I will never buy a set of Firestone Tires again! Stay far away for these tires, over priced junk!

  6. I am replacing 2 week old Michelin primacy mxm4 with these tires. I am going back to the Firehawk because they do not vibrate at all like the Michelin do and have a great ride quality not muchy like primacy and on the noise side, they are the same as Michelin. Also they keep their cool unlike the Primacy that heats up very fast and start to vibrate. Had a great tire and realized it when changing.

  7. 2014 chevy Impala these tires are extremely noisy, after the first two years and 30,000 miles it rides like a “lumber Wagon” and the tires are half worn out. Junk Junk Junk. They are terrible in Ice and snow. Looking to replace these right away. I wouldn’t put these on a farm truck.

  8. 2015 Challenger SXT with 32000 miles. Loud as hell and very worn treads. Can’t believe I am looking to replace after only 2 years. Surely wont be buying Firestones again.

  9. I have 20″ Firestone Firehawk Gtv OE on my 2014 Dodge Charger. I am at 20K and tires are down to 3/32 tread left. I never had a tire that wore out so fast.

    1. I have a 2015 charger sxt with firehawk gtv 245 45 r20 at 12211 miles and the look like they have 40000 miles on them. Im 63 don’t beat on the car and had the same tires on my 2014 challenger r/t . Those tire were done at 17,500 miles. Real Junk. Im going to Firestone dealer tomorrow to see what they will do. There suppose to have a 50.000 mile tread warranty. I would expect to get around 35 to 40 k out of them.

  10. I have these tires as OE on my 2014 Dodge Charger. At less than 24K miles they are worn to the point that driving in the rain is unsafe. With a UTQG tread wear grade of 460, I expected far more wear than this. Very disappointed in this Firestone product, to me it isn’t worthy of the name.
