Falken Ziex S/TZ05 Tire Review & Rating

The Ziex S/TZ05 is a newer addition to the Falken tire lineup. Designed for use on sport trucks and SUV’s, the STZ05 features the latest in tire technology for maximum performance in all-season conditions, including snow.

An all-season tread compound that is M+S rated, combines with a 5 rib non-directional tread pattern that enhances traction on dry and wet pavement. Wider shoulder blocks provide extra stiffness for additional traction as well as improved overall treadwear. A solid center rib increases lateral support and gives this tire quicker steering response.

Wet handling is enhanced through the double taper cut tread blocks that not only add to the tire’s attractiveness, but also channel away more water from under the tread and reduce the risk of hydroplaning.

Falken has virtually eliminated road noise on the S/TZ05 by staggering the shoulder lug grooves. It optimizes the tread for noise reduction and does its job very well.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts with a nylon reinforcement that provide added strength and stability throughout the speed range. A polyester cord body further increases ride comfort and better treadwear. This model carries a 460-A-A UTQG and comes with a 50,000 mile tread guarantee.

Overall Thoughts

Since its release in Dec 2012, the STZ05 has quickly become a top selling model for Falken to be sure. This tire features an attractive tread design that delivers outstanding traction and performance on dry or wet road surfaces. The steering is quick for a tire this size and it gives you
the feeling of being in total control regardless of the road conditions. Cornering stability and overall handling is equally as impressive.

Comfort is excellent, and road noise is nearly non-existent, which is an area that has been noted in many driver reviews of this tire. Treadlife has shown to be very good, just as it has been for the older STZ04. Falken backs it up with a 50,000 mile tread guarantee. The only real glaring negative with this tire would be its lower performance on ice or hard-packed snow where you may find it more difficult in braking/accelerating.

Overall, this new Falken truck and SUV tire is a winner and delivers solid all-around performance. It fills the needs for drivers looking for larger tire sizes and plus size fitments for their trucks and sport utility vehicles. Highly recommended.

Warranty

Falken has a 50,000 mile treadlife warranty on the STZ05. There is also a first 2/32 inch of wear guarantee on tire uniformity.

Materials and workmanship are warranted for 5-years and include free replacement during the first 2/32 inch of wear. The amount is then prorated for the remaining time period down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.
