Falken Rubitrek AT Review
Tires that get off-road enthusiasts places are known as all-terrain tires. They blend aggressive tread patterns that claw through deep mud and sand with long lasting tread and softer rubber to reduce road noise. Falken Rubitrek AT tires are a brand new all-terrain tire. They feature new innovations that provide enthusiast pleasing off-road performance without generating excessive noise on the road.
Blending the traction required for extreme off-roading performance and a quiet, comfortable ride on pavement can be a difficult task. Falken designed Rubitrek AT tires with different technologies to give it the best traction in mud, snow and a long lasting, quiet ride on pavement. Using silica rubber compound to boost tread life and patented technologies to grip hard when the pavement gives way to dirt, gravel or worse. Rubitrek AT tires deep snow and cold traction earn it the Three Peak Moutain Snow Flake severe winter designation. Rugged tread grooves are claimed to be the deepest in the LT truck tire category, giving these tires their long-lasting life and excellent all-terrain traction.
Pros:
- Three Peak mountain Snow Flake symbol for true all-season performance.
- Advanced silica compound for quiet ride.
- Long lasting tread life.
Cons:
- Tread is still noisier than less aggressive LT tires on pavement.
- Dry handling on roads not as strong as wet or off-road traction.
- No manufacturing defect or tread wear warranties.

Performance
Rubitrek A/T tires have been designed from the outside in for great performance in any terrain. To help with the heat, which can build up where the tires meet the rim, sidewall rubber design diffuses it away. Keeping heat from building up should prevent the internal structure of the tire from getting too flexible, maintaining its stiffness and all-terrain traction. It should also help the tire maintain its structure under heavy loads and towing. A strong sidewall provides stability in these heavy applications. A second apex is added to the bead of the sidewall. A heatshield is molded inside the bead, blocking any heat which does build up from affecting the inside casing of the tire. Not only useful in keeping the tire responsive under load, it can give the sidewall a bit of extra protection in off-road situations.
Sidewall design also features an aggressive tread pattern. Fitted along the upper sidewall, offset shoulder blocks of tread provide a kind of armor plating for the tire. These provide the tire with protection from sharp or hard objects when off-roading. These tread blocks also work to give extra traction when riding with tire pressures low in extreme off-road driving. They also grip when driving off camber. Tire tread block are the deepest in the category, for LT tires. Water can be easily whisked from under the tire, keeping rubber in contact with whatever surface you’re driving over. It can also help to resist hydroplaning in deep water on pavement. At an impressive 20/30″ deep, the life of the tire should also be improved.
Long lasting tread isn’t just a result of the depth of molding. Silica is used in the tread compound to resist wear on hard surfaces like pavement. The compound can also give the Rubitrek A/T added traction in wet and dry conditions. Softening the compound reduces the noise generated by the deep, aggressive tread pattern. Falken use 3D sipe technology throughout the tread blocks. Sipes are small grooves cut into the treads and act like small squeeze points, helping the rubber grab onto surfaces, hard and soft. This patented technology is exclusive to Falken tires. It can interlock the tread and shoulder blocks when cornering. Tread block shape should be reinforced by this technology, improving handling in dry conditions. It can resist the wear that can happen in high torque situations, like towing and low gear off-roading.
Rigid tread block patterns have been molded using an aggressive pattern. By combining shapes which provide ramp-up and step-down patterns, the footprint of the Rubitek A/T is maximized on road and off-road surfaces. Maintaining a wide tire footprint is crucial for getting the most traction from a tire on any terrain. The stability of the vehicle may be improved, while promoting improved handling performance. Tread blocks can also resist objects becoming stuck between them. The aggressive pattern works to keep stones and rocks from getting lodged in the tread, ejecting them out.

Conclusion
Providing a tire that can go anywhere, anytime, Rubitrek A/T tires have been designed to provide traction in any condition. Meeting the requirements for Three Point Mountain Snow Flake symbol, they should perform well in deep snow and cold weather. Advanced silica compounds are combined with patented 3D sipe technology to provide a wide footprint and capable handling. A heat dissipating sidewall is reinforced to further protect the internal casings from heat, and sharp objects encountered off-roading. Offset shoulder tread blocks keep gripping when tire pressure is low, or when driving off camber. With great traction in all kinds of terrain, take a look at getting a set for your light truck or SUV.

I find they are not great in snow
I have 40,000 miles on these tires and they still have 8/32 tread left. If you balance and rotate them often they will be some of the best tires you find. I have a 2010 Tundra
Mine should be in soon for my WJ Grand Cherokee w/3 inch lift. I went with
265 70 16’s so the spare can still fit under the floor. 30.6 inches tall and on the factory wheels. I have factory lockers so should be a great trail combination I think.
I’ll give on update in a month or so.
